Glitchy LOD on asteroid field?

Post by Spidey »

So I came upon this truly shiny gem of an asteroid field. Literally.

At a distance.

Closer up it becomes possible to tell what it is.

It appears to be a case of LOD being unloaded from memory if the game has been running for a while. Saving and restarting the game fixes this until the next time it happens.

Hi Spidey,

Just wondering if this issue has been fixed at all or are you still experiencing this?

It would be super helpful (if you haven't already) if you could fill in the form below and provide dx diags and any logs and crash reports.

If you experience any other issues please use this form https://forms.gle/s42oXpmoiDFGFEah6

I thought this is not a bug but intentionally.
If you are at a distance that you have the overview, it is on LOD "overview".
You go inside into detail, LOD is "show tiny objects".

If this really is not intended, please tell, I will upload it here.

Here again. Fresh started game, just running to the point where asteroids are found.

I think it's on purpose that asteroid fields are shown as a "big rock" when zoomed out, but obviously it's supposed to look like a rock rather than a flashlight.

I initially thought, because the brightness was so high, that the LOD texture had gone missing or been corrupted, but I think something in the way I play the game has its brightness turned increasingly higher over time, meaning I start out with a nice rock-looking fields, then they become very bright rocks, and eventually they're just shiny bits of white as shown in initial comment.

This is just a cosmetic issue, not really gameplay significant, and I don't know exactly how to recreate.
