silly unit strength Question

Post by scout1 »

A number of game related items are tied to "unit strength" ...

Looking for a clear understanding as to "unit strength" .... at first glance, "unit strength" = "firearms value" ...

Is this correct, or am I missing something ?

Strength is how much damage it can take.
The combat value, or CV, shown on the counter are an average of all its values x strength x effectiveness% x experience% x a low float value modifier so you don't have a 4 digit value for CV.

Actualy strenght is the number of steps (so 10 for a new division or 30 for a new German panzer corps).

Combat value is all the land (I believe) combat factor units such as guns and firearms. Then it is multiplied (like all individual factors) by the readiness percentage and also the experience percentage. And then IIRC another secret number. And it will show as rounded down for you but with a more precise number under the hood. CV is used for odds which do not determine combat results directly but has very important side effects such as chances of retreat and overrun etc.

So to clarify relative to strength ....

Does this change for a unit either to upgrades ? So is a given unit with 1945 tech have any different than the same one at 1939 tech ?

Are in game calc's, such as supply or transport demand for a unit based on the "unit strength" ? So 20 for a small corp or does this change/reduce with damage to a unit ? re these calc's dynamic or based on the original strength ?

Yes for supply. The supply need do go lower if you lose strength, or steps if you prefer, but not if you lose combat value. You can see the supply requirement in the unit description. You will se a difference between a unit full Streng and one that has lost many steps.

For tech advancement, the strength will not change (it is just the size of the unit). But the combat value of the unit will change as it gets more firearms points for example, and artillery's etc. You can also see the actual combat value for each element such as firearms in the unit description. Both the theoretical max (that never really happens) and the actual one at that time.
