[Suggestion] Fleet right click: Pick up Carcass

Post by Thineboot »

Single ships can do it, add this order for fleets, too.

Similar, or better, same command, for Debris.
And not restricted to a single piece but within a reasonable distance.

I'm not sure these are the exact same 8 small pieces. In most cases you have to spend time zooming in and out, wasd-moving the area, to get a glimps of tiny pieces that are nearly lines due to 3D, which I very much like - 3D. But when it becomes a time consuming forensic investigation, fun fades away...

I like your suggestion, but to save you time in the current build:

Just park your warships in the vicinity and set them to Automated. If their fuel is not extremely low, they'll pick up all debris by themselves. Also, automated freighters and builders will eventually get to it, if you leave it alone.

I've seen this working - once. Sometime in between this changed and bacame this: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9#p4992269 ff

And, btw, this, Fleet right click: Pick up Carcass, is only one example. In fact all commands any ship can issue should be possible by fleets and selected ships, too. As is so often the case, you first see a specific occurrence when it is actually a general one...

I've tested it again and yes, when you change each ship within a successful fleet without any nearby (system?) target manually to Fully Automated they are picking up carcasses and convert them into resources.
There are no benefits so far from (manually!) picking up debris, as of now I haven't had a single eureka moment, neither by decrypting a hidden map nor finding a money stash or making a scientific finding... maybe I was just unlucky with war ships.
Doing the same with constructor or bypassing freighters work.

Rescuing characters drifting in Escape Pods has just put them aboard war ships. Seems since warships can carry characters foreign characters are free to take a look at sensitive tech.
When a construction ship picked up an Escape Pod the captain did their job by throwing them into the brig. Those characters are available as Prisoners. The ones rescued by war ships are, so far, just unloaded on the next spaceport and are out of reach, they just enjoy live on my stations.

So again, right click for multiple ships (fleets, selected ships) should include the orders you can give those ships (or part of them).

Similar goes for changing automation for multiple ships. Otherwise it's a pain below the abdomen...

Edit: Unfortunately even with Fully Automated smaller units tend to escort the flagship instead of doing what the flag ship is doing, namely picking up remains...

... unfortunately, Fully Automatic is only partially working
