Port Supply Clarification

Tripoli is a size 6 port, so it provides 120 supply each turn. In our game I have been interdicting Tripoli and last turn my naval units destroyed 100 supply. My friend told me that his units indicated that they were in basic supply and could not receive reinforcements.
Earlier in the game the Axis blockaded Malta with the unit being eventually destroyed by not being in supply. If I continue to destroy the supply of Tripoli shouldn't the units tracing there also be destroyed (eventually) by the lack of supply? Or they will be in basic supply only as long as the Axis hold Tripoli regardless of how many supply points I destroy each turn?

No, only Malta and Gibraltar can be completely cut-off from supply (special rule in scenario notes). And to do such a complete blockade, there need to be an enemy (usually Axis) naval unit adjacent to Malta/Gibraltar. And a friendly naval unit (allied) adjacent to, or into, port will cancel the blockade.

All other port will continue to provide basic supply at least to units.
