Convoys?

Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive is the fourth wargame in the Decisive Campaign series. Covering the battles in the Ardennes between December 1944 and January 1945, it brings to life Operational wargaming by lowering the scale to just above tactical level.

Convoys?

Post by Capt Cliff »

It would be nice to create a convoy system where you attach units to a convoy to maximize road usage. Right now units move higgly piggly taking multiple routes which is NOT historical. Using the group move I have found is worst than moving independently. No, something needs to be done to simulate truck or tank columns. IMHO

I am not sure that is completely true, but I get your point. In any case game rules-wise the current behaviour does makes much sense as it tries to minimize traffic jams and take the fastest route.

best wishes,
Vic

Perhaps but a military convoy is like a centipede they are not parts of the units they are carrying. If you set up a convoy then the snake across the map. Now they are represented by the unit they are carrying, especial with the 101st and 82nd not having organic trucks in the TO&E. The pathfinding for the game is a bit wonky and it does not always find the cheapest route. By the way I think traffic jams were inevitable. Convoys for other than airborne units were most likely commanded at the Combat Command and regiment level and not at the individual unit. The Regimental HQ would want control over where each of it's units were located incase of contact with the enemy. I am not sure they had radio communication with all their battalions, it was line of sight. Once a convoy is formed it could get a road bonus. Anyway, just an idea.
