1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
Well, the 1.037 regular patch finally came out. I reinstalled and started a new game. After playing 4 hours I am now getting the same crash I got with 1.033. The game suddenly goes black and reboots my PC. Back to Warhammer 3 and Shadow Empire until the next non-beta patch. Rats. I have never had a game do this. Crash, yes, but not a reboot.
Edit: no mods or changes to the base game.

Try the 1.0.3.9.
It is less demanding.

Can't. I am a direct customer and I refuse to play through Steam, so I have to wait a few weeks for the next finished patch to find more bugs.

Re: 1.03.7 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
Hey - purely anecdotal - but my rig also reboots when playing. I kind of didn't think that was supposed to be possible w/ Windows, but it surely does happen.
I ran some CPU & GPU stress tests and nothing overheated or was unstable for those runs (6hrs), but... could be some specific combo of asks on the GPU/CPU from this game that sends things in a reboot?
Or maybe the nvidia drivers (GeForce 2070 Super, not OC'd) actually have that lame of a flaw - and simply can and do crash the entire PC sometimes?
Not much you can likely do about it, but... figured I'd mention it.

Re: 1.03.7 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
When I run TechPowerUp GPU-Z it says the voltage limit is reached. No other game is doing that. Who knows what things are happening there in-game.
Best workaround solution is to play another game: Distant Worls: Universe. It is less demanding, has less bugs and has planets rotating around the sun, as well as moons around planets. Awesome isn't it? And by the way, nearly as much systems and galaxy sizes. What do you think? It is worth a try.
Kind of odd when you can shoot up to another moon or planet that is happening to be close to your planet, but not at others that are on the other side of the sun, and will never ever come into shooting range..

So, it's not just me. Others have seen the same thing.

Re: 1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
I bit the bullet and installed DW2, updated to 1.039beta, from Steam. That version crashes, too, the same way. Attached is a save game file that crashes pretty quickly when loaded.

And here are the dxdiag and session logs for that crash.

Re: 1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
Interesting development - Every time I tried to start the above saved game (the Steam installation) it crashed instantly. I then did a local file verification and there was one file missing/corrupt. So it got re-installed and now the game is running fine...for now anyway. So, next step is to re-install the non-Steam, direct-from-Matrix version of the game and see if it runs fine now as well. Odd that two different installations might be failing from identical bad files....
Does this suggest anything to you, Eric?

Do you have any idea which file it replaced?solops wrote: Mon May 02, 2022 9:32 pm Interesting development - Every time I tried to start the above saved game (the Steam installation) it crashed instantly. With your repaired installation, the save file above no longer crashes for you?
Are you still seeing a repeatable crash on the 1.0.3.7 Matrix version and if so could you also share that save?
In general, if a save file crashes reproducibly, we would love to have it to test here and see if we can reproduce the crash.

Could you please elaborate on what you're seeing with GPU-Z and when exactly you are seeing this?rxnnxs wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 8:35 pm When I run TechPowerUp GPU-Z it says the voltage limit is reached. No other game is doing that. Who knows what things are happening there in-game.
I'm not sure what you're referring to here.Kind of odd when you can shoot up to another moon or planet that is happening to be close to your planet, but not at others that are on the other side of the sun, and will never ever come into shooting range..

Re: 1.03.7 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
It shouldn't be happening, I agree. I'm surprised that it is. Normally that would point to a hardware issue and could be something only revealed when the system is stressed, but you seem to have ruled that out. Could you also try a memory stress test?mordachai wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:37 pm Hey - purely anecdotal - but my rig also reboots when playing. On the other hand, there are planets that are in a close orbital path, but will never come into range, because they are not rotating around the sun anymore.
That is what I meant.

Just to confirm, you're only seeing this when zooming in on nebulas?rxnnxs wrote: Tue May 03, 2022 6:53 pm When I run TechPowerUp GPU-Z it says the voltage limit is reached. No other game is doing that. Who knows what things are happening there in-game.

Yes, correct. Just checked again.Erik Rutins wrote: Tue May 03, 2022 7:54 pmJust to confirm, you're only seeing this when zooming in on nebulas?rxnnxs wrote: Tue May 03, 2022 6:53 pm When I run TechPowerUp GPU-Z it says the voltage limit is reached. Please watch the Video BUT it happens also when I convert a Video with NVidia NVENC.
Right now I do not know a game that would get the GPU that hard to work..
P.S.: I have to correct myself: There are other games that hit the limit. So it is not only this game, but the gas clouds are as hungry as the biggest planet in Planetary Annihilation.
Here is star Ruler 2 with thousands of ships and thousands of laser and projectile fire.
The GPU idles, the CPU is on max, but all is quiet.

I am potentially seeing the same issue and have the same graphics card. More details in this post:mordachai wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:37 pm Hey - purely anecdotal - but my rig also reboots when playing. I kind of didn't think that was supposed to be possible w/ Windows, but it surely does happen.

Re: 1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
I had to quit playing this game weeks ago due to this potentially harmful bug. It does not appear to have been addressed or even taken seriously.

Re: 1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
It has been taken very seriously. However, we cannot reproduce it. We are working on an engine upgrade in order to hopefully address these remaining lower level issues. In the meantime we are making gameplay fixes and improvements so that progress can continue for those who are able to play without issues.

I thought I'd posted about this - but I can't find it -solops wrote: Mon May 30, 2022 4:43 pm I had to quit playing this game weeks ago due to this potentially harmful bug. It does not appear to have been addressed or even taken seriously.
For myself - I was able to stop this (it's been 3+ weeks without incident) by telling nVidia control panel to:
"Power management mode": "Prefer maximum performance" (under Manage 3D Settings).
I think my card was failing to transition from low power-requirements to high when zooming in/out sometimes - and it could brown out the entire unit (or otherwise experience some sort of hardware level failure that triggered the PS or CPU to reboot).
Dunno if any of that can help you - but figured I'd share...
Re: 1.03.7 - 1.03.9 Patch - Causing PC to reboot
Thank you mordachai and Erik. I had begun to suspect it was video/Nvidea related. I hope it can be run down.
