Soviet Cav / Mech Groups ?

Post by tm1 »

I have not had a game where these units have entered the field as I play Germany and my games usually finish before I see any.

In my reference book " Atlas Of The Second World War " they represented as a Army sized unit symbol.

Looking through the manual I see

Soviet Army, Mechanised and Cavalry Corps / Div symbols.

Just curious do Cav / Mech Groups just have a standard Soviet Army symbol ?, does this grouping actually exist in this game or is there just the standard Corps ( Mech / Cav ).

I'm certain I will run into one day but it could be a while yet :D

Most Soviet players will add tank brigades to the Cav Corps in the early phases, from 1943 the Cav Corps TOE has a lot of armoured assets embedded. So in that sense the combination exists or can be created and is very effective - really up to 1944 the Cav Corps have more staying power than a Tank Corps (esp defensively). So they have relative speed, hitting power and more defensive resilience

if you look at the VtB set up, a lot of the Soviet cav corps start attached to a front as a sort of front reserve/exploitation element. Clearly with the game engine not an optimal use but it does indicate their role as the game goes into the mid/late stage.

I don't think the AI builds many cav corps, if I recall from my axis vs AI game (that ended in Jan 45) I never encountered one while it created rifle and tank corps etc.

Reading about them in various books on the eastern front, they had a devastating effect on the German Army, they were incredible powerful formations.

I'm just hoping the AI in my current game with form " The games " version of them so I can trap and destroy them.

The Axis fan is showing in me.
