IA offensive

Post by Yvan1326 »

good morning.
can you explain to me how artificial intelligence manages an offensive in the absence of a script?
Does it move units to enemy supply cities?

The AI attempts to manage the map in a way similar to a human player by weighing out if individual units are considered threatened or not. If enough units are not considered threatened, e.g. we can determine a collection, and thereby an area of the map has more offensive power than the local enemy, the AI then assigns itself to OFFENSIVE plans relative to the nearest enemy city/town.

If the opposite is true, the AI assigns itself (for the applicable units under its control) to DEFENSIVE plans relative to the nearest friendly city or town.

Essentially it is a sort of statistical analysis based on unit strength, combat power (attack and defence) relative to the same values for the enemy close to each unit, that then determines if it should push forward or fall back. This is recalculated every turn so an OFFENSIVE could last as long as 1 turn, or last multiple turns if the conditions favour it to do so.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

the best being, to define an offensive plan, to "mark out" each stage point passing through large cities? is that?
however,
for example, for Barbarossa, the AI goes directly east from Dnepropetrovsk to Stalingrad while there are more than 12 Hexes between the 2 cities. How is it?????

This could be due to some locations being excluded and the AI then set to ignore them, e.g. so it can be directed to the more appropriate/important targets.

In the Editor, under Edit AI Scripts, there is an Advanced button. This is where the exclusion lists are set.

Hubert and I had a huge rolling discussion about the AI that you can find on the Steam forums for SC:WaW. Link here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/957720/d ... 394572288/

The crux of the conversation had been around the German AI invasion of Poland, how the AI would double back and spend extra turns capturing cities on the resource list rather than hammering through to Warsaw. So I took Krakow out of the list, as well as a few other tweaks, and it cut down on the double-back immensely.
