Aircraft not able to load???

Post by ScottyG »

Why do some of my planes show in some ports as being ready for transport and yet in other ports they are not available (even tho the base has aircraft)??? And whats even more confusing is that the planes do show in some ports but are greyed out and say "unable to load on taskforce"???

First, note that the HQ some of these units are attached to have an "[R]" after their names. This is seen in the column for "attached to." This means the units are attached to restricted HQs. Such units can't be moved into ships without being changed to HQs that are unrestricted.

Second, read starting at the bottom of page 178 in the manual.

Third, you need to learn how to switch the HQs units are attached to. This is achieved by going to the unit's page and clicking on what is listed as the HQ for the unit. A list of new HQs will appear, some of which are unrestricted. You pay political points to change HQs.

Once you change a unit to an HQ that is unrestricted, you can load it onto a ship. Not all units, however, can have their HQs changed.

The unit you have highlighted is attached to an Unrestricted HQ - 13th USAAF. It's designation PRS means Photo Recon Squadron. The Assault Value of 8 says it has 8 aircraft, but there is a possibility that it should have more aircraft and there is a detachment somewhere. You might have to reunite them before sea transport.
Another possibility is that you are using the wrong kind of TF. You need a Transport or Air Transport TF to put the aircraft on a cargo ship or tanker. Air Combat or CVE TFs could act as air transports if you crane the aircraft on to the docked ship.
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth

It's like the others said about the HQs. most of those units will withdraw. Tip; don't spend political points on units that will withdraw, political points early in the game are too valuable to spend on units with withdrawal dates. Use those units to train your pilots and just before you withdraw those units send all of the pilots into the reserves.

As stated above your problem is most likely is the headquarters restriction.
Restricted units are the most common reason a group can’t be loaded.

Another factor to keep in mind is that in order to load an air group
as cargo the task force must be docked.

Usually this is not a problem because if you try to load an air group
as cargo onto an undocked task force the game will automatically
dock the task force for you if there is space at the dock.

Docking is usually only a problem at smaller ports, or islands like Norfolk
where there is an airfield but a level zero port with no docks. You won’t be
Able to load a group as cargo. You will have to fly them off or build a port.

It can be a problem at larger ports as well that are handling a lot of traffic.

Shown below is the port at San Francisco where I have a lot of task
forces docked and there is no space for more on the docks.

In this case you will get a flyout that tells you that air groups can’t be loaded.

It is important to read the flyouts in this game.
