Editing a TOAW IV Scenario

Post by robtpatton01 »

Hi. New to TOAW IV, but have been playing TOAW since the beginning. If this has been answered already, I have not found the thread. I am trying to edit a TOAW IV scenario. When I open the editor and search the scenario folders they are empty. What am I missing? When I bought and uploaded from Matrix the game created the folders via this path... C:\Users\rober\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Scenarios\

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

You may find the scenarios here (like a lot of newer games, TOAW IV has both a main folder and a user specific folder, in different locations):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Scenarios\

However I find I'm not able to save files to that path so if you want to edit a scenario you may need to save it to the path you posted above.
"What did you read at university?"
"War Studies"
"War? Huh. What is it good for?"
"Absolutely nothing."

I found that the trick to having the editor follow the correct path to/from the scenario folder is:

1. Before editing, open the target scenario as a new game. Close the scenario. This act establishes the editor’s default scenario open/save path.
2. Open the editor, the editor will look in the last folder opened (the one in which you just opened/closed the new game) and will be looking at the scenario contents which will include your intended editing target.
3. When you “Save As” the edited scenario, the editor will look to the scenario’s folder.

Of course, instead of doing step #1, you can always search thru the scenario folders to locate the scenario you want to edit, but when it’s time to save you need to be careful and search for the correct folder. If you’re careless, like I have been, the scenario will save in the folder of the last opened game which may not be the place where you intend to save the scenario.

Thank you all! Found it under the Program Files option. Found the scenario I wanted to edit and copied/saved it to the Documents\MyGames folder. Able to get in and edit. Thanks again!
