Why is my Tourism practically zero?

Post by Edward8D »

Hi,

my tourism fell off to practically zero. All of the routes go to the capital according to the arrows on the map, but there is 0 revenue listed in the budget sheet. I believe it used to work just fine in the beginning. Can you tell me what's wrong?

My save game (WeTransfer link to the file):
https://we.tl/t-9bcMg7QGAR

I thought maybe it's added to the colony taxes, but there is no mention of it.
I wonder also because the strongest enemy is supposed to have 600k gains from it and I have lower thousands.

I too do not get a lot of revenues from tourism in my current game (almost nothing). But playing as the Mortalens, I'm not the friendliest of neighbors! That might explain why I don't get a lot of tourists from other empires.

As for your situation, can't say for sure why it's the way it is. But I've seen posts stating that tourism was (is?) broken.

Tourism only makes money for the AI. Resort bases are a net drain for players.

For successful tourism you need a place with really high scenery (~20+%).

I recommend submitting this as a bug report. There's a thread with instructions on how to do this in the technical support sub-forum.

I loaded your save and it looks like your passenger ships are erroneously setting your Homeworld as their tourism destination, rather than your Homeworld's resort. They should say they are taking tourists to "Holiday Lounge" instead of to "Imperia".

As per the galactopedia (in Tourism entry): "Note that colonies with scenery bonus will attract tourism without the need to build a resort base at the colony."

Anyway, believe it or not, I installed the game at release and I'm still on my first playthrough :) Tourism never worked well. All tourism passenger ships transport tourists to my homeworld (only a few to its resort station). Even though I have other resort bases at other places and checked tourism several times, I have yet to see one passenger ship transporting tourists anywhere else than... my homeworld or its resort base.

This is definitely broken. Many already have reported that issue. Just waiting for the fix now (read that it worked during beta).

Same for me, every game regardless of scenery bonuses near other high pop colonies. I read on the beta patch thread that the next patch will be working on the private economy, hopefully they look at this as part of that.

Back before release, it was said Tourism would take Scenery and Distance into account.
The way to game autobuilds Resort bases would match that.

However, I also noticed that the game actually only seems to account for scenery. Distance is only used in the unlikely case a tiebreaker is needed. I reported this as a bug, but it is propably low priority.

This isn't typical behavior, regardless of the galactopedia. For example, when you first build a resort around the homeworld, passenger ships will take tourists from the homeworld to the resort in orbit around it.

I suspect part of the problem is that when passenger ships take tourists to the planet itself, there's no way for you to gain revenue since the planet itself doesn't have a recreation facility.

Plenty of other bugs related to this too.

Passenger transports can be used for Migration or Tourism.
And the game clearly keeps them appart, as you can see with the filters for them under Civil Ships

Yeah, definitely strange things going on with the tourists. Here's hoping tourism mechanics are on their agenda for one of the coming updates. They talked about turning to the economy, so I think better tourism will come.
