OT: Pacific War from GMT games

I do. But it's hard to get people to play the games I like. Most of the games we ended up playing are those from Columbia Games or GMT card driven games. Card games are all alike and had little to do with the actual war in question. But games like these do get on the table. When I look at a new game now, I'd think about how likely it will get played first. Otherwise it's just a "collector's item". Sorry for the rant, just happy to meet another boardgamer.

About "Pacific War". I think it's the old Avalon Hill game, under their "Victory Games" label. And perhaps from someone else even before that.

I have a collection of about 200+ board wargames dating back to early AH games like Gettysburg, D-Day, Stalingrad, Battle of the Bulge etc. I also have their monster game The Longest Day which is no doubt the heaviest boardgame I own. Lots of games from SPI including Atlantic Wall, Terrible Swift Sword, and Wacht am Rhein all huge games. Back then we had about 3 players per side and played these monster games once a week. Some of them took us a year to completer. Then everyone got married, had kids, full time jobs so there wasn't the time anymore.
However we still have a large group of friends that play boardgames once a week. We also use Vassal for online and PBEM. Playing games like Circus Maximus can be a hoot and can be completed in an evening. I live in Calgary and we have the Sentry Box which boasts being the largest game store in the world. They have an entire floor of wargames but make more money now selling role playing, family, and Euro games.

I have a number of Columbia Games but the block format limits what they can do and their maps are I think too small with the exception of of Euro Front. I have had East Front 2 for years but have yet to apply the stickers to the blocks. Their two civil war games, Bobby Lee and Sam Grant are fun as you resolve combat on a basic tactical display.

GMT is the #1 publisher of board wargames now and I have a number of their releases but wouldn't get anything a big as Pacific War. Their FAB series, Europe Engulfed, and Asia Engulfed used blocks. Not a big fan of wargames using cards but Twlight Struggle about the Cold War is a clever design and fun to play. GMT has a lot of unique and innovative game designs.

War Plan and War Plan Pacific are part computer and part boardgame and we have enjoyed playing both. There are now 5 of us playing WP and WPP. We also have been playing the Combat Mission series for 20 years as it is the gold standard for computer tactical wargames. Anyway more time for us to enjoy our hobby now that we are all retired.

Big fan of No Retreat the Russian Front now published by GMT (Victory Point Games before). Playing solitaire but I have just downloaded Vassal to see how this works.
