Title Page Bug

Post by Xargun »

I am not sure if anyone else has this problem or if there is a solution already, but here goes...

First of all, I have a 500MHz, with 384 MB RAM, a new Nvidia 5200 video card (64 or 128 MB memory - don't remember which) and am running UV version 2.30 - also, I'm running XP Professional and Direct X 9.0 or 9.1

About half the time I load the game, the title screen comes up and then the play switches appear on it instead of the blue screen. No text is visible, just the switches in the middle of the title screen.. If I continue through to load or start a game, the maps are all messed up as well - both large and mini-map.
Anyone have any ideas what may cause this or a solution ?

Thanks,

Xargun.

No solution, just verification.... I have had the same occurrence, but only occasionally and intermittently (the favorite kind of bug!). I have seen this pre- 2.30, so doubt it's a function of the update.... I am also using XP (Home) and wonder if it might be related? Can't remember if this has ben covered in an old bug report, but someone will help....

I don't think the box said that XP was a supported OS. Do you have any other problems running that video card with that small a processor? 500 MHz is like a Pentium II isn't it? It wouldn't cost much to bump yourself over a Gb on processor speed. You could do it on about $100. I would think that XP would put a big load on a 500MHz processor. You could try dumping more RAM into it but it'd cost about as much as the processor upgrade.

Not sure about the 500 being too small for XP or my video card, and upgrading it is a LOT more than $100... I have looked into it, as the system is old I would need new everything - CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Case, Power Supply.. Hopefully by the time WITP comes out, I will have a new computer too :)

I replaced my motherboard and chipset for a 1.3 Gb processor for $50. You'd have to buy a new fan and heatsink but that should be it. Powersupply should work. I would upgrade the RAM but the stuff you are using should work.

Most probably the case of corrupt video memory. I guess this happens after a loooong gaming or Windows session without restart? Perhaps after you used many different graphics-intensive applications? Just exit the game, and restart the Windows (ie. restart the whole PC).

Hi,

Try slowing down your video card -- to basic if need be. No guarantees, but it has worked for me and a couple of others. [:)]
