Love the way axis space marines can route and lose an order of magnitude less than my average retreat losses

The extent of retreat attrition is based on the unit’s current morale and the experience and fatigue of the unit’s ground elements. Units with higher morale and ground elements with higher experience and lower fatigue will suffer less from retreat attrition

keys off experience and morale

best to reframe what happened. This looks like an in-turn encirclement and then rout? In other words a consequence of the UGO/IGO game design. The tactical reality is the defender would have started to respond - how effectively being derived from leadership, experience and morale. its also likely that the elements across the line of retreat would have been recon type stuff not the main combat force.

So they get out with minimal losses - but a decent morale hit. A weaker formation could well have lost a lot as it lacked the competence/experience to extricate itself.

Whether axis tank losses are now too low in general is another question.

its worth repeating what i found out while i was making tests
that even if you displace this routed panzers again
they will not lose any additional tanks

in my tests displacing whole pazners divisions 3 times, in addition to a route, made them lose 2 additional tanks and 2 more tanks became damaged (other elements too, but tanks are the most important element here)

this is just routed

and this is after 3 displacement movement

so if Soviet players think if it is worth to potentiality sacrifice any unit just to displace routed panzers - no it is not
at least while they are ~85 exp/morale

It's worth it for the truck losses however. And those do happen.

it depends which unit you are going to sacrifice
in a game vs fracas i doomed tank division with ~1k trucks to displace routed panzers a couple of times (was not aware how it works at that point)
it was definitely not worth it
but if there are any of the Soviet best units ;) nearby ...

They lost 7 times what you lost. Like others said, it keys on experience and morale levels. Where is the issue exactly?
