Submarine move/attack -50% damage?

Post by CaesarAug »

Question: there is reference to submarine movement before attacking enemy naval units whereby the potential damage caused by the submarine is reduced 50% and the potential damage to the attacking submarine is doubled.

It reads this on page 119 (SC WAW): “Note that the best use of Subs in combat is to lurk and ambush enemy vessels. If however a Sub moves before attacking then the vessel it attacks will have its losses reduced by 50%, and the attacking Sub will have its losses doubled.”

But this reference is not included in all versions of the game manual, so I was wondering: is this feature is still included in the game engine or was it dropped with the latest manual revisions and game patches?

Thanks!

I think it is the other way around. The attacking sub does damaged reduced by 50% after a move so its better for other vessels to run into the sub but if a sub runs into another unit its takes 2x damage.

I asked this question a few years ago because I observed very weak results after such attacks. The reply is that the attack value of a submarine after movement is halved. They promised to write this in the manual. It is a long time that I read the manual but it should be in the manual 'on line'

It does apply to all our SC3 (hex based) WWI and WWII games.

Am I right in thinking that it's not in the Manual for either WWI or WWII: War in Europe, or both?

Yes, as far as I’m aware, the same explanation does indeed appear now in all three SC game manuals, the versions online at least. It’s possible the installed versions are not identical to the online versions?

It’s just that in one previous version of the SC WAW manual, I looked for that explanation (based on memory of having read it before somewhere) but was surprised that I couldn’t find it in the manual. Hence the query if the feature had been dropped.

So as it stands, the feature is retained and all three online PDF SC manuals now reflect it. Will double check the PDF manuals installed with the game & patches. Thank you.
