Quick Question

Post by kevinkins »

Is there a way to lock the zoom level (altitude) and/or pan extent north south, east, west for a regional sized battle so the player's focus remains within the section of the map being used and is populated by units used to fight the battle? For example, just Ukraine and western Russia leaving the rest of the world unviewable. Maybe it's the way I use the mouse, but I often end up centered far away from the battlefield staring at huge vacant areas unrelated to the scenario. I just want to see if anything related to this has been added over the past several years. There does not appear to be any lua functions related.

Hey Kevin,
I had experienced the same problem then a while back and someone posted a solution.

If you use the zoom in/out keys ("z" , "x") and save the scenario then the next time you load it the view (altitude & terrain) will remain as you had them. Doesn't work with the mouse, just the z & x keys.

I should have been clearer. I would want the map 100% restricted to a certain region of the map never being able to leave while playing the scenario. You can't zoom out and pan to see a vacant North America (or rest of the planet) and be restricted just to where the fighting is taking place like Ukraine or Syria etc. Most wargames use the entire map, or the designer can cut out a small section from a larger master map. While small scenarios play fine, they just look odd with a massive amount of unused area of the earth. Cutting a map section out might mess everything up from a programing POV so I was thinking lua might have a solution.
