Artillery Supply

Post by warnevada »

I'm playing the campaign scenario Wacht Am Rhein for the first time and noticing something I didn't see in the smaller scenarios. I don't know if this is something in the campaign scenario or something introduced in the latest update.

What I'm seeing is that artillery type units are not receiving sufficient supply after firing. It's especially severe for rocket units. This is happening where infantry and mech units in the same area are not having any supply difficulties. I haven't audited the supplies to see whether the units are receiving a reduced amount of supply or none at all for a time. I first noticed the problem when I saw the units were getting a supply deficit penalty during bombardment.

This is intentional. Especially for the german side. It models limited stocks of artillery shells and not being able to do fully effective barrage every turn. It forces the player to choose the moments to use the artillery.

Does the player have any control over which units get the scarce artillery supplies, or do all artillery units get a reduced amount of supplies each turn and you have to wait until they get fully resupplied at some turn?

Since Vic's reply I've been studying the artillery supply situation and frankly I'm confused.

There is a Supply Attack Modifier which is applied when an artillery unit is firing. There is also a Supply Defensive Modifier, which I don't understand when it is used in the case of artillery unless it is when the artillery is being attacked. I don't understand what kind of supplies are referred to other than artillery shells, and artillery shells are the same whether fired offensively or defensively. What I'm seeing is that when the artillery fires both the Attack and Defensive modifiers go negative.

What I'm also seeing is that when the artillery moves both modifiers go negative. I totally don't understand that, which implies they are losing artillery shells along the road as they're moving.

When an artillery unit sits and does nothing for a turn it recovers some of the penalties, implying it receives some ammunition. But again it's confusing because Attack and Defensive modifiers are recovered at different rates.

Thanks Warnevada! I am looking into this. There is indeed an issue with the prognosis you are given in the bottom of the screen. Will be addressed in next patch. (the combat calculations are actually correct)
