Problem Installing SP:WAW 8.x

Post by Art Hoffman »

I downloaded the SP:WAW ver 8.0 with 8.01 patch. After installing both, I try to start via shortcut and get strtup screen menu. When I click on start the game - Nothing happens. I go into the directory for SP and click on "Standard Start" and get an error message that I am missing the DLL file "d2d9.dll" I have done a search for it, and it is not on the system.

Running Win 2K.

I wouls appreciate any assistance that you could send.

Thanks

I had the same problem then realized I was running an older version of DirectX. You need to update your DirectX.

Open up internet explorer, choose tools --> windows update

Scan for updates, then choose the "Windows 2000" on the lefthand side and add directx and then install it. You should be okay after that.

I upgraded to DirectX 9.0b, unistalled SPWAW, deleted files & Directories, reinstalled 8.0 & 8.01.
Now I get the startup menu and video to play, but goes back to the menu on the screen when video finishes.

Again, I am running Win2k on an AMD Athlon 1800, 512MB ram, etc system.

Is there a particular SP that is needed? I think I am on SP1 only.

Thanks for any sugestions.

You don´t need the original SP, SPWAW is a standalone.

If you have problems after the video try running from the "Steel Panthers Quick Start" in the START menu entry of SPWAW.

Marc,

When I said SP and SP1, I was talking about Service packs for windows.

On the second point, i tried starting the "Quick Start", and it goes black for about 5 seconds then comes back to the original starting point.

Yes. The same thing happens, black for about 5 seconds, then back to original display.

I have also tried changing my screen settings. Is there a maximum setting (800 x 600?) that can be used?

This is odd. I would suggest to update to latest SP and also make sure that the graphics drivers are up to date.

There´s no particular screen resolution needed, SPWAW switches to the needed one automatically.

You need really Direct X 8.0 or higher.
