Status of DW2

Post by mainebears »

Apparently we hadn't had a new beta for a few Weeks because Code Force was working with a new version of the Stride Gaming engine to address some of the playability issues that couldn't addressed easily otherwise. See the Beta 1.0.50 notice for details

I was concerned that lack of resources was the issue due to the bad press the game had recieved at launch. I.E. the game wasn't selling as well as expected and development was slowing down which we seen before. Or it was just Erick and Elliot taking vacation after 3 months of extensive weekly updates.

I was concerned whether Matrix Games or players should do more to get people to try playing the game again. I had issues with crashing but enjoyed playing the game none the less. Crashing with 1.0.48 and 1.049 updates have been almost non-existent but could been caused by the ongoing Windows 11 issues I been having since October.

Code Force should be commended for all the effort they put into fixing every bug that is reported and players that taken the time to document the problems tbey have found. I seen many games developed by much larger development staff never address players concerns or fix known bug fixes or take much longer to implement changes.

As example of point I am trying to make, I have to run Stellaris with several bug fix mods and better AI mods because the developers haven't addressed known problems that someone found actual solutions for but the developers won't take the time to investigate and implement years after launch.

I wrote this in response to posts like this on Steam - there seemed to be some concerns in the community about the pace of the development of Distant Worlds 2 - this was just before the 1.0.50 beta was released.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1531540/ ... 671599950/

I had also been waiting a long time for Beta to finish and was disappointed it was not as bug free as i hoped. I want to remind people that Code Force was still working on the game and it is alot more stable now so that efforts should move beyond crash prevention at an increasing pace now. Financially its probably important that those of use that see the potential in the game speak out to help limit the reports like it be another year till the game is actually ready to play.

Yes to all you say, but Terminus brings it to the point:
my understanding is the graphics engine is a lot better but many of the quality of life and gameplay features that DW Universe had are still not working properly yet. Hopefully we will get there in a few months!
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1531540/ ... 5566623741

I guess they are working hard to bring it out for all of us and found out via the steam branch what has to be done now to get the game a big step forward.
And why give more people than the steam branch an insight, if they already know what has to be done?
It is again hard to wait, but those that bought it from matrix directly are those, that might be those, that deserve the fastest patch than anybody.
I can only guess, that steam has the most sells and they decided to publish the 1..0.5.0 beta to them to have the update fuzz only once.
And sure they already found out, that not only the engine nor the microsoft component had flaws, but thats also changing or breaking again other things.
So now, even while publishing the beta only for steam, they have three big cases:
QOL für all, Engine Problems, Update problems for that netC'# whatever stuff and not enough time to do that all.
SInce talking with the community is not giving anything positive instead of some like us that write and watch almost everyday here and there, they might as well ignore us and do work.
Finally, the big crashes seem to be gone now and we are heading into the QOL Stage.
I am happy that this is the case. And in the coming Months and Years, a new chapter has begun:
DW2 is playable and it is taking shape as Elliot wanted it to be. For sure there are more wishes he had but was limited to by all of above said.
I thank the whole Team and apologize for my behaviour but at the other side doing or saying nothing is also no option.

Let there be light!

The game in general work just fine, at least for me... I have had next to no technical issues with the games for the last few patches.

Sure... I would like some balance changes and QOL updates... but the game seem to work more or less as intended in my opinion.

Yes, it also works for me, but not as intended in my eyes.

I can play MOO3 or Polaris Sector (which I play in these days and enjoy it!) and relax while playing. With those games I can administer my Imperium better than in DW2.
And they both are tiny bit better than DW:U, because of all known contrary points.
But I tried so many times stellaris (I even tried MOO3 more times) but it never made fun and on top of it by stellaris: they changed some mechanics or got another DLC going.., that I even now try it from time to time, but I never get warm with it.

So, while playing:
Polaris Sector
MOO3
MOO1
Astrox Imperium
Stardrive with Black Box
(in that Order),

a bit
Distant Worlds: Universe and
Planetary Annihilation

and while looking into

X4: Reunion and
Stellaris
(both never come close to what they could make out of it - but fail in my eyes..)

i wait for the day (that sure is coming some day..)
that Distant Worlds 2 is what its meant to be.

Before I play Stellaris (again), I would try Sins Of A Solar Empire Rebellion with the Star Trek Armada III Mod.
Awesome work!

Sorry for the late reply, yes when first came out many were excited, included me. But i been trying to get those players to be nice on the steam forum. Some were way out of line over there, first of all, they should have early access on the store page and dunno when the pc spec recommendation was setup right. Minimal is 8GB and so is the recommend, should have been doubled or 16GB.

I was really looking forward to play it, but there has been issues with the game when first came out. So after a few patches i tried again, but i lost interest of the game. I would rather play this instead of Stellaris, Stellaris use to be pretty good back in those days until they ruined it.

I think that the 1053 patch is out on steam. Try it. And report any problems in the tech forum....GP
