We lost 2 transports to Allied subs and a previously severely damaged sub before it could return to Truk.

Nov 29, 1942

N1K1 Rex R&D reached 30(0); the aircraft will only advance one month before production begins in Jun '43.

Our subs put torpedoes in 2 Allied transports near Rangoon, sinking at least one of them.

The Allies finally attacked at Port Blair to clear out the remnant of the defending JNAF; it will reform near Victoria Point.

Elements of the 3rd Tank Division arrived at Peiping.

Dec 1, 1942

Vehicle production was turned back on; inventory dropped from 22.9k to 19.1k while it was off for about 2 weeks. Armament and Merchant Shipyard production were turned off to conserve HI. HI production was increased by 50 (at Port Arthur, Nagoya, Changchun, and Harbin). 37 mm AT guns were replaced by 47 mm AT guns. Production of Ki-21-IIa Sallies upgraded to Ki-21-IIb Sallies, increasing the aircraft gun value by 1 (whoo-hoo).

An amphibious evacuation TF departed Soerabaja for Koepang. If successful the 38 Div will be lifted out of Koepang. BB Yamato/Mutsu (Tanaka commanding) TF leads, followed by a cruiser TF, and covered by carrier divisions 1 and 3 (Akagi, Kaga, Shokaku, and Zuikaku, Yamaguchi commanding). Due to facility damage at Koepang that cannot be repaired these units are unable to fortify so can be defeated easily. They will be able to fortify on Java.

British cruisers bombarded Mergui and US battleships bombarded Makin, both with the usual results. A Japanese sub was lost to a mine at Roti (could have been friendly fire).

The evacuation task force departed Koepang through a gauntlet of submarines with about 200 AV of 38 Div headed to Soerabaja. One of the engineer units there is being flown out.

Liberators bombed the heavy industry at Nanking getting 12 hits and reducing HI production to zero (it had already been reduced from a previous attack).

Two evacuation task forces departed Soerabaja for Koepang; the larger to lift out 4 Div and a smaller one to evacuate the fragment of an engineer regiment. Both are following the 2 BB TF (Yamato and Mutsu, commanded by Adm Tanaka). All carriers except CVL Ryujo provide cover some distance to the west.

The Allies landed a small force at vacant Salajar, 2 hexes SE of Makassar. I've directed the cruiser TF covering the CVs to attempt to intercept the amphibious force and the 4th Raiding Rgt at Manado to airdrop on the base tomorrow (with 0 prep). The 38 Div fragment at Soerabaja (~200 AV) will load transports and head to the island to reinforce the parachute assault. The carriers are close enough to cover this endeavor.

The third of six George R&D sites reached 30(0). R&D will now advance one month every 33+ days. N1K1-J George production is projected to start in the Mar/Apr '43 timeframe.

Great Nicobar finally flipped to the Allies (after being occupied since Nov 30).

A fast transport TF (CL and 2 DDs) trying to get to Makin to evacuate some disabled float planes was intercepted by a heavy cruiser TF and crushed.

Carrier-based Judys sank an AVP near Roti.

US battleships bombarded Kwajalein and Wake Is. (US Indiana) and Buin and Wake Is. were reinforced.

Unescorted Nells stationed at Georgetown (the fighters are adjacent at Alor Star and did not fly) attacked Allied task forces at Great Nicobar and were brushed aside with substantial loss. Escorted Betties stationed at Rabaul attacked Allied task forces at Buin and got mauled. Escorted Nells stationed at Rabaul got through the Allied CAP at Buin but had no hits.

Yamaguchi's CV TF passed well south of Babeldaob moving east but will not arrive in time to save Wake Is. -

Bases captured today: Noemfoor (vacant)

I-25 put 3 torpedoes in an xAP off Townsville in 2 engagements; sinking sounds were heard.

I-22 put 2 torpedoes in an AO midway between Pearl Harbor and Johnston Is.; sinking sounds were heard.

Our evacuation TF departed Koepang for Soerabaja with fragments of several units and supply. There is still 40k supply at Koepang captured from the Allies.

Yamaguchi's CV TF (4 CV, 1 CVL) headed east undetected looking for targets, finding none. The TF will head SW toward the Solomons now with low DL. Nagumo's CV TF arrived at Soerabaja for replenishment and repairs. Some air units upgraded from Val to Judy and Kate to Jill. All fighters are flying A6M5.

There was no ground combat of any kind. Elements of 3 Tank Div began arriving at Chengchow from Peking.
