Game crashes to desktop....

Post by przy06 »

...have installed and uninstalled a few times. Same issue, the Matrix launcher loads fine, but when I click the start button, I get a second of black loading screen and then right to desktop. Another issue also is when I uninstall it, there is a font ( PortmanteauRegular ) that wont uninstall normally. I had to install a third party program to force delete the file. I am running on a Windows 10 laptop with a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 6GB GDDR6, CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-10750H 6cores /12 threads 2.60GHz Turbo 5.0GHz 12MB Cache (Comet Lake), and 16GB (8GBx2) DDR4/2666MHz SODIMM Memory. OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit Edition) If you need any other info let me know, thanks :)

Update:

Upon doing more research I noticed an error log:

[2022-07-01 4:52:59 AM; 6.2.9200; 1920x1080x32(1); SC3: Civil War v1.01.00] FAILED(set_user_community_pack_files): Permission denied

Does this help?

Hi Przy06,

Yes the error log does help, and it sounds like it might be your Anti-Virus software preventing the game from setting up some files in your USER documents folder on game launch. Some Anti-Virus software is set to be protective of this area of your PC.

You could try white-listing the game to see if that helps, and alternatively, you could try running the game as an Administrator for just the first run to get it past this issue.

Right click on the game EXE in the installation folder, or the Desktop icon and select 'Run as Administrator...' to see if that helps.

Thanks Hubert, it was that damn pesky Avast anti virus. :) I did what you said to do and white listed the installation folder and it loads fine now. Have never had an issue with the anti virus before, always a first for everything :) Thanks for the quick response. Have a great day. 8-) Have purchased your games since the original Strategic Command way back, and they never disappoint.
