Another game I have to play with Zoomit

Post by Numdydar »

I am very disappointed that one more zoom in level is not available. I do not understand why developers make things harder for people that have declining and/or bad eyesight. I find it sad that I have to use a third party tool in order to enjoy the game.

Hopefully at some point in the future, one more zoom in level can be added.

For the record the game is playable as is but it is much harder than it should be for me.

Agreed, the game itself is great so far but I find it lacking some basic quality of life things. For me, it's almost tediously annoying and makes me end my gaming sessions short because I find it incredibly difficult to even get to the part of the map I need to look at without constantly looking at the War Map and back into 1 zoom mode.

Hopefully this is something they can patch in the future.

I agree. I pointed this out during beta testing. It is not easy to see stuff on the map with ageing eyes.

I would also like another level of zoom out before getting to the strategic map.

+1
I have to either use a lower resolution or the windows-+ keys to see things on occasion.

As far as I'm concerned, the game is unplayable given the current zoom levels. This is very disappointing.

Lack of proper zoom will keep me away from this title. Was just about to buy. Too bad

One thing you can try, is to try playing at a lower resolution that the default. If you go to Settings you'll see the list of resolutions and picking one lower in the list should help.

I have poor eyesight. Such that I'm legally blind in one and I need glasses.

Play at 1920x1080, and I have no trouble seeing or reading any thing.

Not a fan of this solution or response. Hopefully a patch will add an addition zoom level like was done with War in the East 2 when people complained that another zoom level was needed in that game.

The response I would have liked to have seen was "We will see what we can do about adding an additional zoom level to the game and, if it can be done, will add it to a future patch." :D

Numdydar and others, I share your frustration with the limited zoom. All of the Strategic Command games could use another zoom level. I frequently find myself squinting at the screen attempting to read small words or numbers.

The Matrix developers have always been extremely responsive to gamers' requests. I'm sure they are looking at this issue. But I'm guessing that zoom levels must be a lot more difficult to program than it would seem.

You might try getting a larger monitor. You could even connect it to your laptop. I got a huge flat screen monitor mostly for playing Strategic Command games and it helped a lot.

While your suggestion was made with good intentions, I do not think the correct solution to this title lacking basic Quality of Life features is to suggest the player spends more money after buying the game to alleviate an issue that quite honestly seems like it's an attitude of;

"Well I don't have YOUR problem, so obviously it's a YOU problem."

I've never played Strategic Command before this title, though I'm not new to wargames. While I enjoy the game's core mechanics, it makes itself into a chore to play and that's not good for new player retention.

Not a fan of this solution or response.
Understood, unfortunately adding several more zoom options are not trivial under the current engine, thus the suggestions to see if they help.

Sounds like players would like a few different options when it comes to zoom, e.g. zooming in closer to see text and units bigger on the map, as well as being able to zoom out further to see more of the map as well before getting to the strategic map.

Again, none of these are straightforward changes and additions on my end, otherwise they would have been implemented already and/or I would indeed have a different response, e.g. I don't want to be misleading, or give false hope about what we might have down the road in an upcoming patch.

I also haven't gone into technical detail (I could if anyone is really interested) as to why this would be a bit of a challenge to implement right now, as I also am not a fan of having myself make what will likely come across as excuses. Just being honest about that.

Hopefully this clarifies it all a little bit,
Hubert

I appreciate your honesty and personally I admire it. Thanks for not sugarcoating it and letting us know what's practical at the moment. I will try to push through and continue playing as I really enjoy the game aside for this issue, or rather challenge.

MUCH better response. Thank you very much for the additional details. You obviously need a better game engine :D

I am still glad I got the game, just cannot play it very long at one sitting.

Fingers crossed that the next product you release will be able to have one more zoom level.

I have a 31" monitor and the lack of one more lv of zoom is still an issue.

Game definitely needs another level of zoom and if there was a way to tell forts vs other units when you completely zoom out that would be helpful.

Does anyone remotely find that the "Strategic" view is helpful in any way other than clicking into blobs of units, half of which are forts which you don't even use? There are no borders, no indication of controlled territory, no way to see the FS strategic objectives, you have to have your own knowledge of the locations of the states to even click into things properly. There is no way to filter out the type of unit sprites it is showing you wish to find. In the War Map view provided by the tabs you get to see icons of the nations "at war" ... how exactly does this even help the majority of the game play?

I want to like this game, I really do. I bought it direct from Matrix the moment I saw it but I echo the comments on this thread about this interface -- and specifically about the Strategic information it provides -- these levels of zoom and the lack of really much of anything on that Strategic view is a real challenge. And the middle zoom level is basically unusable at 1900 on a modern laptop.

There is a map mod currently available that improves the War Map by at least showing state borders and names
