new orleans

Strategic Command: American Civil War gives you the opportunity to battle for the future of the United States in this grand strategy game. Command the Confederacy in a desperate struggle for independence, or lead the Union armies in a march on Richmond.

looks to me that the union AI is not going to attack New Orleans. This is true of other civil war games - the attack is complicated even for a human player. but this is going to throw the game off. can i suggest that some kind of ai fix - like in decisions or a hard wired event that allows the union ai to take the city? and thus try to attack up the river. thanks

Interesting idea. Make it something like the invasion of Norway in WiE.

The Union already has a lot of advantages. Making them even stronger seems very off to me.

If as confederate player I choose to garrison and fortify New Orleans given its importance such scrpiting would make any defence redundant.

Maybe some event where by if new orleans is cut off by land and sea for set turns it surrenders?

I’m actually pretty impressed with the Union Ai so far. I have it set to default.
In my current game Union landed at Norfolk. Seems to me they (arguably rightly) prioritise the areas you have least defended, or have not defend at all.

They do take New Orleans if it’s either not garrisoned (like excluding forts, or too lightly defended. I lost it in my first game, where I had just a brigade I think defending it.

The Union AI needs help to carry it out. Maybe the event could be disabled fo MP.

Honestly both the AIs need help. But the Union needs it most of all.

This is indeed a problem of the AI in the 1861 scenarios. In the 1862 scenario, the Union AI starts with an attack on New Orleans, and it later scenarios of course New Orleans is already in Union hands.

I wonder if it would help the AI if frigates could move up the Mississippi at least as far at New Orleans, since they did in real life go as far as Vicksburg (that is, assuming steam sloops as frigates in game). That may be a bad idea, but something to think about.

I had plenty of successful navel invasion by the union AI along the coast.
I don't see why they can't do it with New Orleans? (They never did it in my games, but in principle the AI can do it. Maybe they won't do it for other reasons).
Though going with the damn breach is completely unnecessary. Dropping them off west of the city is much easier to pull of (as a human and certainly for the AI).

Ryan is hard at work on the AI and a few other things, expect to see some improvements overall in the next update :)
