ED Tutorial "issues"

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Post by Zovs »

So I am reading through the manual and on page 17 for ED tut, I am supposed to select a lead unit, but it does not exist, lol.

On pages 18-19 of the manual it shows I should use fighter escort or get slaughters, but no fighters are found.

Maybe, I am totally messing this mission up? Wonder if there is a way to cancel a mission or not.

So the manual wants me to set up more bombing missions but I can't do it, the system auto picks airfields way off to the east that only contain bombers and no escorts can be found.

Also it does not look like you can delete a mission once set, which is a bit odd.

On the second mission I did get fighter escorts, 24 Me 100s.

And the results were expected...lol

Hmmm, you can delete and modify missions from the planning menu "Review".
Some of the UI has changed since the manual was written, and some game mechanics. Your list of escorts will only show fighters within range that belong to the HQ of the lead bomber. Range includes the distance from the fighter base to the form-up base both inbound and outbound so take the opportunity during bad weather to mover you 109's to the coast.

Aircraft range calculations have been fixed with the newer patches to represent the total distance travelled, but you should at least see some Me110's. Try a short range mission or drag your 1st outbound waypoint closer to Calais and see if you have any luck. You can also fly a fighter sweep to the target, the fighters will hang around for a while which provides some protection, but make sure you set the altitude above the flak so they don't get caught in a 'turkey shoot'.

Thanks Simovitch for the tips and advice, I 'll give it a try when I fire up ED next time.

What is a good alt to fly at to avoid flak?

Check the "Weapon Database" for the various Flak ranges. At least get above the 37mm Flak guns and hope they don't have 88's.
