Singelplater or just pbem?

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Singelplater or just pbem?

Post by Edorf »

Seems like everyone is just playing AWD PvP. Is it any good single player wise? I know an AI is just an AI but as long as it is not acting totally stupid I’m fine.

By reading some of the older posts in this forum I also get the impression that there’s an issue with the US entry in the war. So no US invasion in Western Europe unless Germany makes an attack in North America?

Well, it’s on sale so I’m tempted.

I would be very surprised if players are only playing PVP, although the multiplayer nature of AWD makes that appealing. As with a recent pool of WitE2 where almost 70% play exclusively against the AI, I'd expect a similar percentage with AWD. Gary is known for his AI work, and IIRC he put a lot of time into the AI in AWD. I think you will find it fun to play and challenging. If you play the AI and are looking for more, hopefully the new MP server system will help you find opponents.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Regarding the US entry into the war, you may have read that in relation to the Deluxe mod. I had made a small mistake that introduced that error, but I have fixed it now. In the vanilla game US entry works as designed. US either enters the war via hitting a threshold number or enters due to Japan attacking, which is the typical way US enters.

No US invasion unless Germany attacks North America? That's a definite no. The Allies will press hard to enter Europe. I've seen many times even a landing in Greece if she isn't defended well enough. Only if you are doing really great can you keep the Western Allies out of Europe. Which in that case you are probably well on your way to totally conquering Russia, and then turning all that might back to face the Western Allies. Satisfying hell yes

@Lebatron

Thanks for the explanation regarding the US entry. Good to know that there’s no issues with this in the vanilla game.
