Beach assault..

Post by Belisarius »

Question: Is it possible to damage/sink landing craft (any size exept rafts)??? I bring everyting I got to bear on e.g. japanese landing craft, AT guns, 12" naval guns, .50 cal, FA arty, you name it.

Result: Not even a scratch.

I also noticed that landing craft don't have any smoke ammo. Are they suppose to have any?

It has been a little while since I played an amphib one, but a 5" gun, at least for me is very lethal. AT guns and AT bunkers do well against them.

Of course it depends on who is invading and who is defending...their skill and morale play a big role.

No, Sundevil, to my knowledge landing craft did not make smoke. Usually small ships such as DDs and DEs made a pass across the landing area emitting smoke. Of course there was always a lot of haze from the prebombardment of the assaulting forces too.

I saw some footage on the history channel of small boats laying smoke. Maybe they were Dukws but they weren't DE size. It was of some Pacific assault. If they didn't lay smoke why not?

I have sunk LC, and had mine sunk (though mine had already discharged passengers and I was using their 50 cal's for fire support). If you check their status after they've been hit you'll see the 'damage' number climb; I assume when it reaches a predetermined value they sink. It seems like they don't have any critical spots where one shot finishes them off...maybe one of the designers knows.

They'll sink all right, and take their passengers with them. Disappear right off the map.
Retreat is NOT an option.
