PBEM "Live" Battles

Post by hossjww30 »

I've been playing against the puter and was ready for a PBEM game. I asked my potential opponent if the battles can be watched "live" like playing against the puter. He said no. How hard is it to make a replay file so that the 2nd player can watch the opponent battles unfold instead of clicking at hexes and looking at the results?

To do this, you need to re-write a significant part of the game code. Given that the core code was created a very long time ago, such major changes to the code are hardly possible. Especially given the hundreds of minor errors and shortcomings that are not eliminated for months and years.
Sorry, i use an online translator :(

i was asking for the same feature some time ago, would it be possible to add some numbers on a battle screen so players can see order of battles instead of just guessing?

Players agree to record their turn on Youtube?

Two things:

Show all battle sites (F11):

Commanders Report (CR), Battles tab:

Yes thank you. I know what the F11 key does. That's not the same as watching them as they occur.

Understand, but none of the WitX series has any play back and I doubt they will after all this time (WitE1 is where this all stemmed from).

Playback sounds like a way to bloat savefiles for little benefit. During a single combat, thousands of elements fire at each other - try to run a combat on message level 7. Then try to copy all that information into the save for all of the battles per turn. Even with compression, it will be a significantly meatier file (and slower to save and load).

Agree with original poster. If there was a replay like WITP it would add so much to the game. You see the style of play of the opponent and if like WITP becomes its own nerve wracking entertainment. Seeing those breakthoughs expand and expand !!

I think its a mistake not to have a replay if they think they will expand it to War In Europe scale especially.

I will not be going round the map looking at every battle (especially when the display of the battles is at best un user friendly). Rather than building bigger games I would first make a replay... if they dont I do not think the interest will be there to look for a gigantic game.

You do get a reply in playing against the AI?? I only do PBEM but would see a strong attraction in AI with a replay .

Still its a good game and getting better by the patch - it is what it is but it could be much better with a replay.

I believe the devs have responded to this question before and it’s just not readable the way the game is built. I’d settle for even a watered down version of this where it shows which order battles took place through the opponents turn (numbered next to battles or in command screen) or which hexes were flipped (using a different colour or something)

i checked a couple of battles and as Zovs wrote, CR, with default filters, shows them in order as they were made
