[1.0.5.3] Research: PrerequisiteProjectsMinimumPathCount

Post by Thineboot »

See ResearchProjectDefinitions.xml, lines 16505-16569 (16558):

Code: Select all

    <PrerequisiteProjectsMinimumPathCount>2</PrerequisiteProjectsMinimumPathCount>
The component, Vector Engine, can be used. So it's not just visual.
Research Tree uses standard paths.
I don't recall how I've got the tech, sorry. It's very unlikely that I've researched it, at least not the whole tech.

Sometimes I find entire techs like that as I gather debris from a battle and debris field around an abandoned ship. The Boskaran Torpedo seems a moderately common find. I have also seen other racial techs. I recently got 'Troop Transports' without researching Ship Boarding as a find.
Racial Techs I have found in this fashion include Haakonish Starfield, Teekan Attack Shuttle, and Mortalen Pulse Torpedo.
Disassembling a ship can also scattershot partial or complete tech developments.

Are you saying that when you "find entire techs" you can use them without knowing the prerequisite projects? If that's the general intention I'm fine with it. I too can use tires without having practical knowledge about how to vulcanize rubber ;)

Yes, exactly. Take the Boskaran Torpedo, I only ever find the v4 Version and I can use it as is. In the case of the Troop Transport, I was able to develop, build, and use the improved transports, without having Ship Boarding Tech, this did mean the Transports lacked Assault Pods

As a side question:
How do you manage to pick up the debris?
It can not be automated, or can it?
So I guess you also pick them up by hand, one by one.

And does this debris has a lifetime? When is it gone? Do I have to hurry?

Manually, ship by ship :( I usually target the carcass and switch to automatic.
That works not always. Nearby threads can result in ignoring the order and launch an attack. Few fuel, sometimes even nearly no need of fuel at all, can result in an automatic refuel order. Tiny cracks in the hull while being equipped with repair drones can order them to seek repair. But when they stay automatic will work and they will pick up any nearby carcass and debris.
See [Suggestion] Fleet right click: Pick up Carcass for a simple solutions...

When basic automation kicks in, not by order but the general one like refueling, it becomes a click and pause exercise

Debris has a lifetime. When you leave the orb it vanishes soon after. Escape pods run out of breathable oxygen very fast. I have no idea why they won't give survivors a realistic chance to survive, but space is a harsh mistress and it seems they like it rough. At least as long as there are only male characters in DW2 ;)

Thank you very much, nicely and funny described the situation.
Now sorry for asking, lets go back to topic.
But I can not say much about that.. Just that I have some research fields that are partly researched by pickiung stuff up.
The most annoying thing fo rme is the pop up time and the bad readability.
I woul love to have a longer wait time befor the big "picture" expands. With those both super short delays before the big pop up explanation, I barelay can orient myself on the text, then, the bigger info window unfolds. And then the reading begins.. Hmm.. why the heck can't I research it.. Ok, the orange field says it, the red field also but gives no clue.. hmm..
On the other hand, it would also annoy me if I would have to wait longer.. because there is some explanation I need... and without the delay.. the popup is so big..
So the best would be, no popup because even while scrolling or going over uninteresting things the small pop up comes up in no time.
So if I think about it, no popup at first would be good, and then, after a time we could define by our selfes in microseconds, the full popup would be there.

But right now, after all, the game begins to let us play more ore less - more play time than write time :-)
Nonetheless, there is wayyy much more to do (fix and tweak)!

Happy playing DW2 and keep you ideas coming. I enjoy reading it!

You can do it manually.
However, if you have automation on, the AI will send an Idle ship to collect the debris. Sometimes you have to race or fight AI empires to gather up debris.
