What's next for the series?

Post by matchwood »

Hiya, long time fan of WiTW and WitE. What's next, is there going to be a combined west and east front game?

Next up is the Steel Inferno DLC with new campaigns/scenarios. After that, it's less clear. We've already got 2 other projects in the works, and one on hold that we'd like to get back to someday. None of these involve WitE/WitW. Will we return to it to produce a new full game someday? I can't say. It's been a long ride and we've got a few other things we'd like to do. It may well be that another team will spring up someday, like the WitP AE team, to take WitE2 even further. Or we may decide to go back to it ourselves. As complex as WitP was, Gary thinks WitE2 is much more complex codewise, and there's a lot more code. We still have plans for WitE2 data changes going forward, like Trey's major OB revision/upgrade, and possible additional DLCs. However, finding the programming power to make major changes to the game to allow for a combined War in Europe may be hard to find. Getting a competent AI to play the game will be tough, as Gary's probably the only person that has taken on an AI challenge this big before.

You are right about the complexity of a game like this, and to be honest, Gary, you and the rest of the team are my one and only hope for War in the East and West Game. I don't even expect anyone else to be able to do the job.
I think the popularity of such a game would be so great that it would compensate all efforts in every possible way :D .

When it comes to Stell Inferno, let me make it clear: if there is a Bagration 1944 scenario, I will buy it, if not, I will not :(

Not a Napoleonic game, I guess. You never liked that period, did you?

And the Pacific is over, I think that you said it some time ago?

Joel,

2 problems with increasing scope:

* You don't want playing a full campaign to end of up on the "bucket list" of all your customers. :)

* The greater the scope, the more the game approaches the sandbox. I like that Gary's works only allow just so much exploration, but not fantasy. We all know at least one title where Luxemburg can conquer the world by 1940 (unmodded). If I play one of the GG series, I do so for its authenticity. (So, please don't give the Germans light sabers. They will be so OP.)

Thanks.

I would love to see a WW2 game built on the Command Modern Warfare engine.... it would make WITE2 look like checkers!
