Another UV nit

Post by mbatch729 »

Another UV nit came to my attention tonight. I like to move an AK, AV and a group of PBY's around on "dot" bases for spotting. You can't leave those in one place in UV very long, or your opponent will send a nice TF of DD's to clean house. But what seems to give it away is the airfield symbol on the dot. I my mind, since WITP is on a much larger scale, I see these scouting groups being more important. But, if the airfield symbol magically appears on one of the dots, my opponent will know where my scouts are. Is there any way that something could be done about this? Decection level similar to TF's or something?

Why not give the option to create an air combat group with the center piece being an AV that can load PBYs,PBMs, H6Ks, ect and then have them operate from from those shallow water harbors or coves.

There should definitely not be "instantaneous" intelligence as to these activities.

It is one thing to be operating bombers from a complex of airstrips than a handful of PBYs operating off a beach....

Hi, I don't know about other players but when any aircraft spots my TF's or flys recon over one of my bases I look to see where it came from. If a PBY flys over a base and the range is too far for it to have came from Luganville I send recon to all the little dots in range. Just as many times I know enemy TF is around because a Val spots my submarine (I then know enemy CV are near by) When a Pete spots a TF you know enemy TF is close (short range scout) An Alf means you have a larger circle to search in for enemy TF.

The point is not to get too worried over nits. But then I send airgroups to every base just so if enemy flys recon all my bases have the symbol. (it might be a 6 plane transport group or 100 Betty he has to fly more recon to know and I get to move things about since I know where he is looking)

It is not unreasonable to know that an enemy has aircraft operating off the beach, assuming he can reach it with his own search assets, and that information is not "instantaneous". There should be a delay of a couple of days before "figuring it out" unless reconned or the AV is "spotted".

I do the same myself Mogami (1-2 plane PBY dets left all over the place, makes it look like a bunch more than there really is)
