Hyperdrive offline but nothing damaged, destroyed or disabled!?!

Post by 100thMonkey »

“Force of Maredon” is a tanker attached to a 1st fleet. The selection panel indicates “HyperDrive Offline” when it's selected. But when I hover above the hexagon icon on the right of the selection panel, the info shows nothing damaged, destroyed or disabled.:o But, there are 4 “unbuilt” components!?! As you can see in the screenshot, the tanker is in deep space. So it's not being constructed. It has been traveling in space for a while.

I've recently conquered the system you see in the screenshot. So it's possible the tanker was attacked by an enemy ship or fleet. But: 4 unbuilt components, hyperdrive offline, no component damage, destroyed or disabled?!

Anybody have an idea of what’s going on? Is this a bug?... A hidden “feature” of some sort?... Something else?

I'm using v1.0.6.2 beta. I have a save, if anybody wants it.

Did your conquest result in wiping out the other empire? Is it possible that's a ship you assimilated and its design doesn't have a hyperdrive?

No, the other empire is still alive and kicking (a little bit less than before though ).

And yes, I've boarded a few ships (not a lot), but first thing is that this tanker has one of my empire's tanker designs (CC2600). And if it was a boarded ship, without hyperdrive, it's almost impossible that it could have gone to one of my spaceport to "update" to one of my design, and come back to the fighting near the enemy borders.

But to be sure, I've checked the message log, and it's not one of the boarded ships.

And there's still the question of the 4 unbuilt components.

I was thinking it might have tried going for a retrofit, then somehow something overrode that order (maybe a ship needing fuel?) and it left the shipyard. Or maybe there was an issue with the check for hyperdrive in the designer. Before you have hyperdrives researched, the designer allows ships without a hyperdrive as valid. Afterwards, it doesn't allow you to save the design. And the default auto designs for the first tiers can lag behind a lot due to not researching a particular component for the next design upgrade.

Thanks for taking the time to try to figure it out. I'll wait a little to see if anybody has any idea of what's going on. If not, I'll do a bug report about it.

Yeah, my logic was probably far-fetched. Never encountered anything like this. Thought maybe with the recent issues and subsequent fixes to fuel tanker behaviour, it might have been the culprit.

Probably worth doing a bug report anyway, as this does indeed look like a bug, or at least unintended behaviour.
