Take Wenchow on 15 Dec with scene 1

Post by jiajia1 »

I would suggest take Wenchow on turn 8 or 9 with 21D(amphibious to hex 90,58) 22D and the regiment in Shaohing. It can be added to the calendar as a static strategy. Just put LRCap on 22D avoid slowed by air strike and slow enemy coming to Wenchow. Then let 21D go south.

Hex 90,58 is a non-base hex. It is my understanding, that in PBEM games, players have a house-rule to limit amphibious invasions to base hexes only. Against AI all bets are off, of course.

Only some PBEM Games have that HR. The penalties in amphibiously landing in a non-base hex are so high, that it is almost never worthwhile anyway, so the HR is not used that often.

An interesting proposal, but I don't see why you want to land in 90,58 instead of landing in Wenchow directly. The base doesn't have a minefield nor a fortress with Coastal Defense. I don't know of the top of my head if the Chinese ToE contains guns that can be used for CD, but even if they do attaching a BB to the Invasion TF will help a lot.

Also I think you need to take the worst case scenario into account: The Chinese corp near Hangchow can be in Wenchow in 7 days, the two Chinese Corps in Pucheng can be there in 10 days. Even if the 21st Div is able to take Wenchow beforehand, it would need to stay to prevent it's recapture. So even if you take Wenchow on the 15th, the 21st Division could be bound to that theatre for possibly a much longer time frame.
From an Allied perspective, binding the Division in Wenchow for as long as possible could be worthwhile.

I think the that approach ultimately will boil down to how important Wenchow is for you and if it's relative importance is greater than taking Malaya/Burma/Philippines faster with the 21st Div.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought that during the Japanese amphibious bonus period that there are few problems with disablements during landings. So landing at a nonbase hex should be fine, not all of the nice beaches are actually at a base.

Once the Japanese units are at Wenchow while it is still under Chinese control, it would be terrible if there were Japanese amphibious task forces dropping off supplies to force a Chinese bombardment.
