Experience Grinding Non Combat Units

Post by GKILLA »

Hey all,

It's probably been asked before but I can't find the answer. Can you level up experience on units such as AA and AT gun teams (excluding training of course?) I'm trying to ensure that my AA and AT guns are at a high enough exp level to actually do anything against the Allies in the late game. Any answers are appreciated.

Outside of training and prepping (which only goes so far) the only way to improve unit experience is to put them in combat and gain it on the job.

Thanks for the reply! That's the tricky part. I can't bombard/attack with either asset. So does that mean for the case of AT I need to put them in position to be attacked by armor? And for AA guns, my best chance is just waiting for the bombers to arrive? OR can I just have them in the same hex as an active siege/battle and they can just soak up experience by proxy?

Yes AA needs to shoot at enemy aircraft. Just make sure you have plenty of supply on hand to do that turn after turn.

A/T guns can shoot at other vehicles too - not just armour. So if an enemy ID attacks your position your A/T guns may still get some work.

I seem to recall it being mentioned once that AT guns on the offensive can aid in the reduction of fortified positions in the assault phase, but darned if I can find it again. :|

xp level does not matter much for those guys' performance, and you would not get many opportunities against human player anyway. Against AI I've seen AA xp go in the 70s under relentless waves of suicidal AI planes, but that takes months and does not really increase performance much compared to default 50s.

AT units are usually purely defensive (due to short range of their gun devices), they do not participate in assaults or bombardments, and do not take losses or increase xp there.

Thanks GetAssista, that clears some things up for me. I know for the most part that the XP level doesn't matter much in most situations, but it would still make me feel better if my AA units had a lot of EXP. Much like how the Soviet AA gets like 85 experience of something crazy like that.
