Movement cost question

Post by Pocus »

I'm not too sure why the first hex costs 2 and the next one only 1. Same terrain, already on road...

The first hex has mud on it, the second does not. Dirt roads (which is all roads in ACW) don't count in muddy terrain.

Is the weather mud for any of those hexes? Sometimes you can go from one type of ground condition to the other without even knowing it. (Unless you look in the lower left of the interface.)

Hover your mouse cursor over any hex. In the lower left of the screen it will give you the current weather/ground conditions in that hex right above the hex coordinates. Some aspects of weather like snow and rain will display as textures on the map. But some, like mud will display as a muted brown and can be hard to see if the terrain is forested...or if you have the national colors option on.

The difference between mud and dry is much easier to see in more open terrain or when you have the Union blue (National Colors Option) turned off.

This is why I turned the National Colors off now when moving, especially because of the Union blue tint.
In a WaW match last year my game improved much better half way in when I did that also.
Sometimes I will toggle national colors on to better see who owns what, but toggle it off as a default through most of the turn... especially with this game with all the forest and forest hills that dominates large swathes of the continent. 🙂

The hex that costs two to move into is a bit darker than the one that costs one. Or really, because I was looking for it :D

You might find the distinction between clear and muddy hexes easier to see if you use the Classic map style included as one of the in-game mods.

Yes, it seems to be THE advice, although I like my national colors...
