For my part I will not be doing the early Allied attack vs Japan - probably wouldn't help me much anyway :)

New ELO match:

Standard rules and I'm also not going to do the early Allied attack vs Japan.

ELOs Ended:
thunderlizard11 [WIN] (axis) v. ElvisJonesRambo [LOSS] (allies) - Elvis resigned Feb '45 - Allies had a good shot still as Japan was on the rocks. Germany took down Soviets and fighting was taking place in Iberian peninsular, Turkey and Caucuses regions. Would have been a fight into '47.
thunderlizard11 [WIN] (allies) v. ElvisJonesRambo [LOSS] (axis) - Elvis resigned July '43 - Allies likely to win but not a cinch. Germans pressing into Russia with Moscow about to fall. German armor at level 4. Japan struggling with DEI contested and China advancing. Italy just knocked out but Germans entrenched there. Would have been interesting and another one to have gone the distance.

As always, games with Elvis never dull or predictable.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs ThundarLizard (Allies) ---Close but no cigar. Suicided Transports into Italy in 1943 sucked. Green pieces had a big role in game. They were actually fine. One of his favorite tricks to turn tide. Lizard Alamo Castle in Russia wouldn't be broken in time before his random port seeking American Transports created beachhead.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) vs ThundarLizard (Axis) --- Lizard played the Spy & Intelligence tech with Panzers and swarmed only to targets. Japan was gonna get nuke and dumped, but Germany had Level 5 Panzers too long. Spying & Intelligence too powerful.

Lizard has up'ed his game, not making mistakes. His modern tactics 1-step ahead of me

New ELO game begins.

SCOLDGAMER (Axis) vs petedalby (Allies) 1939 Scenario
Game ends. Axis resignation in Nov '41 after Japanese struggled in China.

Current game vs Fafnir not going well. Paris falls in March '40. Lots of unpleasantness everywhere else.

[WIN] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs Yellowcactus (Allies) --- Didn't plan on it, but felt the pressure in the MedFront coming in late 1942. Threw a Winter curveball, went old school, Spanish Gambit. Allies went heavy to help, they paid the price.

ELO Ended:

ThunderLizard11 [WIN] (Allies) v. kjgokc2007 [LOSS] (Axis) - Axis resigns Feb '43. Barbarossa stalls out as German attack too spread out to make progress in any one area. All majors cities still in Russian control. Allies landed in Western France and have taken out Italy. Japan took Hawaii in strong move but DEI still in Allied hands. Overall an excellent game from kjgokc.

ELO Started:

ElvisJonesRambo (Allies) v. ThunderLizard11 (Axis) - game off to fun start as Allies go all in in France slowing Axis advance.
kjgokc2007 (Allies) v. ThunderLizard11 (Axis)
SCOLDGAMER (Axis) v. ThunderLizard11 (Allies)

1939 World at War scenario.

CapitaineHaddock(Axis) vs Laurenz (Allies).

Standard ELO rules + no softlocking with non-at war majors.
Game ended. CapitaineHaddock (axis) resigns october 1942.

My second ELO game and actually the first one I started. This time, I was also up against a very strong player. Fared somewhat better than against my other opponent DmitryN, but still the outcome was never seriously in doubt. In short, I got delayed in France until late autumn 1940 and did not put what little time I had left to efficient use. Taking Malta was probably not worth it, even more so, since I didn't undertake anything serious in NA, except bloody the Brits a bit. Late and weak Barbarossa only got to grab some land (basically Ukraine, Belarus, Baltics) because of Laurenz leaving everything empty. Unnecessary precaution, IMO USSR would have been even better served by a forward defense. By mid 42 the USSR was a juggernaut and my planes had spent the game everywhere except tank hunting in the SU. I then foolishly attacked Turkey in summer 42. Didn't know they now get a second capital after I took Ankara with para/air action. After failing to take Erzurum on turn 4 of the invasion, I gave up. The USSR would have swarmed me in the summer of 43. I sunk a whole lot of UK ships, including two CVs of Malta and a bunch of BBs off Norway, but wasn't able to exploit it meaningfully. I also defeated an allied landing in France in summer 42 and eliminated a bunch of US tanks and paras, but it didn't take me anywhere either. The Japanese performance was similarly underwhelming. Thank you.
First, thank you for the game CapitaineHaddock!

Was good fun although I agree that it was probably over after the big Axis push in the USSST did not materialize in '41.
Although, I was still worried about the huge Japanese army, which might have been able to accomplish something.

I think the deciding factor was the lack of focus in German strategy, which got the Brits a very bloody nose early on, but did not conquer anything of significance. The Germans where doing everything - conquering Malta, batteling with the buff RAF over France, gobbeling up Europe - but preparing an early and decisive Barbarossa. Japan was doing quite well, but not good enough to materialize a second front agianst the USSR, or deter the US from interveening in Europe.

Also the single biggest issue imho was that the Germans did not really account for soviet mobilization in their decisions in the first years of the war, so the red army was at no point smaler then the Wehrmacht one.

Agian, thanks for the fun game!

ELO Ended:

ThunderLizard11 [WIN} (axis) v. arikogut [LOSS] (allies) - Allies resign in Dec '43 after fall of Russia. Very close match with Allies making really strong landing in France and capturing Paris in Dec '43 (see screenshot). One advantage that may have tipped things was Axis fighter tech advantage of 4 versus 3. That blunted overwhelming Allied air in France. Soviets almost over ran German supply lines but came up short as Germans took Moscow in Nov 43. Pacific was dominated by Japan - China on ropes, India under siege but holding - strong defensive positions in Hawaii - Allies went with Europe first for sure. In Africa, East Africa holding and Tripoli holding by a thread. Great game by arikogut.

ELO result:

firsteds (Allies) defeats archmache (Axis)

Long, epic game. Berlin finally fell in 1947 with just 2 turns left. Super Panzers and jets held off the Allies for a long time. Earlier in the game it was looking pretty good for the Axis who had defeated China, won Spain (diplo) and taken Malta, Rostov, Vladivostok, Delhi and Singapore. UK morale was as low as 20%. But nukes in Japan and a Russian grind in Manchuria prevailed and the Allies switched their full attention to Germany in 1946. Very close game and great fun.

[LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs OldAHgamer (Allies) ---this game really chapped my ass. Did the Diplo Turkey conversion w/ Spanish Gambit; Japs did Central China Zero strategy. Had things under control with 1100MMPs for Gerry. Italians held all their land (except Libya/Corsica/Sicily) and what sucked, their morale wouldn't stop dropping, despite not losing any more ground. Then got Russian Winter in December 1943. The Italian buckle was show stopper. Turn it happened Yanks only need 1 AV to grab a port and pour 10 units in. Awful. Wasn't in mood to continue despite owning Spain, Turkey, Iraq, Egypt...Italians let me down, need to quit trying despite the fun

3 games in 1942 scenario (not ELO) ended. All the 3 games won by Axis.
I played as axis against Jackmack and Firstends both resigned winter 1943/44 with USSR surrendered/1-2 turns to surrender. I played the same scenario as allies against Fanfir and resigned May 1944, in much better condition with USSR far from surrender but with fast no chances to kill even Germany. (Not talking about Japan, which was close to kill China, took half of Africa and made big advances in India).

Few notes about the experience

1. The 1942 scenario is not so in favour of allies as it seems on the first glance. Maybe somewhat more in favour of allies than 1939 scenario but not as much. Allies at the beginning have plenty of units, but it means nothing if you use them not effective.
2. These 3 games, in which all of the players being quite experienced in tactics were placed in different strategy framework, again showed that this game is more about the strategy than the tactics. It is obvious that even in 1942 scenario axis can kill USSR if US and UK don’t force Germany to withdraw significant amount of units from Russia. And kill of the USSR is the end of the game.
From these 3 games tactically on Russian front axis was most successful against Firstends. Guess my defense against Fanfir and Jackmac’s defence against me were the same in regard of kill/losses ratio.
However players did absolutely different thing as US and UK:
Jacmack landed Norway (what for?) and made massive landing in DEI with significant looses in fleet and a lot of land unit engaged. Even without considering tactical effectiveness of both operations they did not affect main Russian front. Even making big losses to Japan and future German income you cant save Russia, which is the clue to win. Jackmack did a lot of UK/US research as well.
Firstends lost everything in Russia (like 10-12 units in surrounding and like 7-8 times HQ killed or heavy damaged just because of no cover) however he at least tried to massively land in France/Italy and forced Germany to move units. Thus finally his situation in USSR in the end 1943 was even better than Jackmack’s in game with whom Russian army had no help. Firstends also made some landings in the Pacific loosing all the carriers and made a lot of research for US/UK. So no chances for Russia.
In my game with Fanfir US/UK first few turns did nothing but buying amphibious transports. About 20 land units from all over the world (including India, Australia, and all the allies Pacific units), and all the possible allies fleet came in Mediterranian in like 5 turns from the scenario beginning (fall 1942). Italy fell like in next 2 turn. Some landings was also done in south France. Fall of Italy and destroying of all the axis troops in North Africa forced Germany to withdraw a lot of units including tanks from Russia which made axis advances much slower. The most strategically important point (Baku), which was taken by axis in 2 other games Fall 1942, was taken by Fanfir only Fall 1943.
3. If it was not Fanfir allies fast capture of Italy together with tough defense in Russia should changed the game in allies favor. But again main thing is strategy not tactics.
In both games I have played this scenario as axis, in the beginning of the game without knowledge if it is at all possible to crush Russia (the same as Fanfir had initially), I decided to go “turtle” strategy for Japan investing vast part of money in research and being relatively passive in China. If Fanfir did the same, there was no way Germany could cope with all the allies’ forces.
However he did quite the opposite:
(a) He made fast no research for both Japan/Germany (actually Fanfir always makes less research in any game compared with any other player).
(b) He began massive offensive both in China and India. In China it resulted in real catastrophe for China summer/fall 1943, in India it forced US to send some additional troops there.
(c)Which was the most important, he made Japanese landing in Egypt together with sending part of Japanese fleet in Medeterenian.
(d) He used all the German fleet to bother convoy routs quite intensively.
(e) he made Japanese landings in a quite unexpected places as west Australia, all the Africa etc.

All the above forced US/UK to spend more than half of its funds on fleet reinforcement and war with Japan for about 1,5 years. It resulted in the fast complete kill of German fleet and I guess that all the fleet losses were close to equal, but it gave Germany time and resources to continue offence in Russia.
On the other hand I made the same mistake as Jackmack/Firstends but few turns later. As soon as it seemed that Russian front was stabilized I have spend thousands of MPP’s of US/UK/USSR on the research and diplomacy, which was a stupid mistake.

4. Diplomacy works strange. After Italy switched to allies I had 108% of chits each turn. I split it to Spain/Turkey/Sweden with more than 30% in each. Fanfir did not use the diplomacy at all. So I should have at least 1 move of one country per turn in average. However in average it was less than 50% turns in which one country moved to allies. Average it was like 45% effectiveness compared to 108% diplomacy power. Don’t think I was SO unlucky in 20 turns. Guess there are some problems with game’s math.

Allies surrender when Luftwaffe destroy 3 British Fighter groups and a surprise Sealion hits in January 1943. Japan was on the ropes, but after London fell, MPP and NM swing to Axis would push Russia over the edge.

Like a lamb to the slaughter I have accepted Fafnir's challenge. 1939 scenario - usual ELO rules.

Fafnir (Axis) vs petedalby (Allies)
Forget the lamb - more like a tethered goat! Game ends in May 42 with Allied Resignation after the fall of India & Australia.

Great game and amazing to see how Fafnir plays. Excellent pace and good communication. If you don't mind getting thrashed I'd recommend playing him.
