Edit Combat Data/Combat Losses?

Post by CaesarAug »

In the Edit Combat Data/Combat Losses (Attack and Defense), the manual mentions the following: “Combat Losses (essentially the die rolls that modify combat results).”

I’m not sure how to interpret the values. I infer that a value of 2 must be better than 1 but how is this calculated during a battle, particularly between different ship classes having different values?

I’m inquiring for modding additional naval parameters in this regard, in an attempt to differentiate between ship classes, if this value can contribute to that effect.

Thanks for any input!

Hi

This is the randomization that is added to combat. It defaults to -1/+1 and if you change it to (say) -2/+2 you'll see far more variable combat results.

Sometimes attacks will succeed beyond all expectations, and other times they will fail miserably even though they seemed to have everything going their way.

I hope that helps, and I would suggest experimenting with it in a test campaign to see if you like the results being more variable.

Thanks for the info. Ok so these parameters work towards more/less variable, more/less predictable combat results. Understood. Good to know. But with this knowledge, I tend to now prefer game default values, since greater variability in naval battle outcomes was not what I had in mind. Still, food for thought, though.
