1.0.6.6 Started in Nebula

Post by pauls2271 »

Started a new game as Boskaran, pre-warp.

Once the new Explorer ship was built, I did my usual by manually controlling it. There was an asteroid field around the home planet. Clicking on the asteroid didn't work. I tried right clicking and did not get the menu. I tried to move the explorer ship and eventually it moved. But same problems then I noticed that it said CONSTRUCTION in yellow on it when before it did not. Finally it took a survey order, only to stop halfway in space.

Could not figure out what the heck was happening. Then I zoomed out of the system and saw I was inside a nebula.

I don't think starting planets should be generated inside nebulas.

Had I been a complete newbie to DS2, I would have just given up and never tried to play DS2 again.

IMHO nebulas are a complete PITA.

I know they are meant to be obstructive but they are also very badly implemented.

They slow ships down to 20% but then stop and damage ships with lightning OK. Ships cope with the episodic strikes by giving up, they forget their mission, I have seen it happen or they slow to a crawl and stay at a crawl when they could travel faster, if you reissue the missin they suddenly speed up. They should try to continue hyper and travel at top speed but they dont. Strikes are far too frequent to do anything in them with early-mid hyper tech yet the story gives you investigation POIs inside these nebulas much like the starting colony inside a nebula that is not viable for early game.

Moreover the nebulae are not well marked visually on the galactic map, practically indistinguishable from surrounding space except for the occasional sprite of green or flickering light (that is a nono for epileptics btw) and to cap it all the extent of the visible nebula is different at different scales of zoom / LOD !

Nebulas are rubbish. Next game I am switching them off. I had them set to sparse and there are still way too many in the galaxy when there should be one or two in the whole galaxy there are still dozens.
