1.06.58 "unofficial" update

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

1.06.58 "unofficial" update

Post by simovitch »

Here is a dropbox link to the 1.06.58 update. Download 1.0658.zip, unzip and overwrite your current 1.06.57 "btr.exe" in your main EDBTR folder with this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4963qp1xtvskn ... 8.zip?dl=0

This is basically the 1.06.57 patch with the following additions:

1. Radar range rings will display if radar site is selected during Planning Phase.
2. Time over Target (TOT) now displays correctly in both raid planning and raid review.
3. Knickebein navigation shows up now during lead flight selection in the BoB's.
4. Roundels now, finally, display properly. Defender side roundels always had issues displaying all flights properly (if any one cared to notice...)

This has been tested by me with no issues. Current saves should work fine but as always install patches just after the current turn has played out. must be patched over official 1.06.57. We will make this an official install after we have added more substantive content.

If you have any issues or questions you can post them here.

enjoy!

Thanks, Richard!

Downloaded. I had to tell Norton to trust it.

You might want to get either Matrix/Slitherine or 2by3 EXE signing certificate to avoid being flagged as malware; and also have Matrix host. There are many users who never go against there AV software.

Another thing you might suggest (in the release post) is to use www.virustotal.com when you build and host personal EXEs.

I am not sure if intentional ... the click on radar station brings up the radius and disables mouse scrolling. You are probably treating this like a pop-up box, but most users are more likely to see it as a map planning overlay like a flight path.

That's all I have time for today.

Thanks, again!

Thanks for the tips Mark. I changed the file to a zip file to be a more friendly download.

Regarding selecting the radar sites, that is how all target locations selected during raid planning display.

Using this now.
Thanks and its the little things like the info on night fighting gear on the plane readout now and the nice touch of 'taxiing' when I checked on a field with aircraft about to take off.

Dropbox doesn't work for me. Any chance you can attach the file here?

I have place two files on my business server for you. Do a SAVE AS from your browser.

http://www.kwlsystems.com/images/gameq/btr(58).exe

http://www.kwlsystems.com/images/gameq/btr.exe

YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM WITH WWW.VIRUSTOTAL.COM

The first is the file Richard offered. Remove "(58)".

The second, I have flipped the bit to permit the game to use 4Gb RAM in the EXE header on a 64bit Windows. It will load and run faster. In fact, all GG games will, but Matrix neglects to do this.

Enjoy!

(in response to a request by Richard)

The following GG titles have been released to the public limited to 2Gb or RAM. As 32 bit EXE's this limits their available RAM by 50% on most modern systems. I own EDBTR, WITP-AE, WITW, and WITE-2.

NOTE: If you don't understand what I am saying, then just consider it to be voodoo which will make your games run better.

You will see the impact most clearly in program load time and map related operations like scrolling with WITE-2.

@Everyone

There are two ways to set this bit.

Very easy ...

Requires some technical skills ... (sample screens below from many years ago) ... a blast from the past Harpoon II :)

@Richard

As a developer, I would expect to find this setting one of two places:

* The command line switches/args for the LINKER that builds the EXE.

* A special module(file) which you can include in the link list which sets certain parameters of the output EXE. Things like the detailed information (organization and build date, etc...)

Just a note, before you run off to patch all your EXEs with the 4Gb bit/flag.

You should look at the EXE in Windows Task Manager (on 64 bit Windows).

If:

MyGame.exe*32: worth looking into further.

MyGame.exe: it is a 64 bit image already. Nothing more to do.

If the first case:

MyGame.exe*32: may have been built with this bit already set. This is really only for old games like the original Total War RTW.exe or MTW2.exe. This will have the most dramatic impact when you use an old 32 bit game, and apply an overhaul mod which is heavy on HD graphics. In some cases, mod installs will do this for you as part of the install like NAM (network addon mod) for Sim City 4.
