Defending Greater Germania 1942 - Includes combined WitW and WitE2 AARs

Post by tm1 »

This will be my first attempt at a 1942 start, again this will be against the AI.
So hopefully it wont get to uninteresting a game.

This is a WITW / WITE2 Crossover game which depending on the outcome of the various fronts currently covered may include also The Italian and Western fronts.

The AAR is being posted here as this forum is the current forum for the community however I will be posting notices in the WITW forum as the AAR proceeds.

North Africa Turn 1

Making a steady retreat along the Coast however there are some Italian stragglers, they may be captured , but with The Anglo American force landing in Algeria I must get The Afrika Korps back to Tunisia as quickly as possible to counter them.

Situation Report

Eastern Front

Nov 1942

Army Group South is now split into 2 subordinate Army Groups, B is sent towards Stalingrad and A ordered to drive towards The Caucasus.

By Nov the Germans have failed to secure there 2 main objectives, Stalingrad and The Caucasus Oilfields.

At Stalingrad 6th Armee struggles to take the city while massive Soviet Forces gather on its flanks.

Messed up and forgot to get screenshots but as you can imagine or if you have played the STB campaign its brutal for the Germans with 6th Armee encircled.

North Africa Turn 2

Production,Supply and OB

Well production wise these figures look like the overall figures for the Western Front, which means I am probably only getting a fraction off this stuff sent to North Africa.
NA Production 2.jpg

Supply looks good until you look at the fine print and see most of it is going to the Italian Mainland while we get a trickle.

looking at the opposing Forces manpower numbers it looks like we are evenly matched until you notice that nearly a 100,000 men are stationed on the European mainland.

Again its more of a Air War this time , so no real major combat losses.

Situation Report

Eastern Front

Dec 1942 Turn 2

AG North

Leningrad continues to remain isolated but the defences are to strong, after containing heavy attacks by Soviet forces, along The Volkhov River we have had success in counterattacking and pushing back The Russians.

I am going to try to push the Russians back and hopefully cut there supply lines on the lake, if can take the lake ports and then destroy the cities defenders it will free up a huge force.
AGN 2.jpg
AGN 2.jpg (1.19 MiB) Viewed 5713 times

Further South 16th Armee is attacked relentlessly but The Demyansk Pocket holds, elsewhere the Russians launch frontal assaults causing huge losses on both sides but fail to cause any major breakthroughs.

Strange retreats for the AI to back off the Volkhov river and Demyansk salient.

Has it pulled back elsewhere?

Hi
In answer to your question YES to a extent, the AI seems to pull troops back from the line to mass for attacks, once finished it tries to redeploy them back onto the front line but I guess they don't have the legs so to speak and so there are gaps.

or

It will just mass troops after attacking is over and place them where it feels the biggest threat is.

Will I take advantage of this YES more than likely, why well its not 41 campaign where i could wipe out 3 million men by Dec 41, at the moment I am facing double the manpower and almost double everything else its winter 42 and i will be coming into 43 where The Soviets get much stronger, i will see how the game shapes up in early to mid 43 if its to easy I will think about increasing the AI levels to give it a fighting chance.

Cheers

With 6th Armee cutoff at Stalingrad General Herman Hoth's 4th Pz Armee launches a counter offensive to relieve the trapped Armee.
Army Group B 2.jpg
Army Group B 2.jpg (1.05 MiB) Viewed 5584 times
As the Soviets concentrate on destroying 6th Armee Hoth's forces advance and punch through the lines opening a slim corridor for Von Paulus to escape the net.

Its been a risk as I don't have any troops covering the right flank, with only shattered Romanians covering the left, but the corridor holds for now, facing a lot Guards units and my Panzers are not in good shape.

Winter Storm.jpg

The Russians retake Stalingrad which was to be expected but I am only interested in getting as much of 6th Armee out.

Things looking bright at the moment.

I am rushing every available unit I can, redeployed every unit in the Crimea and sent them into The Caucasus to cover any gaps.

Managed to take some ground along The Black Sea Coast but lost some in other areas.

Supply, Leaders and production Turn 2

Well supply for the Army is great but will have to see how long it will stay this way.

For the Air force not so good, always seems they are low supplies time and time again I am yet to master the logistics here.

Losses and OB Turn 2

Both sides took heavy losses however The Red Army can sustain these kinds losses, the Ostheer can not.

Need to find a way to reduce the enemy numbers without losing to many of mine.

Losses 2.jpg
Losses 2.jpg (393.63 KiB) Viewed 5579 times
Same issues in the air, both sides took a beating, I cant keep losing these numbers of planes, I cant sustain these losses week after week I wont have a Air force very soon.

A Losses 2.jpg
A Losses 2.jpg (363.18 KiB) Viewed 5579 times
The Russian OB is huge with manpower doubling mine, I need to destroy and capture enemy units a lot of them to make a dent in there OB.

Still there are positives at this time being a hope to pull 6th Armee out of the fire.

North Africa Turn 3

Situation report 24 Nov 1942

News from the Eastern Front is heartening as we here our that our comrades in arms at Stalingrad have hope of rescue.

But here in the desert The British still give chase as The Armee moves as fast as it can to reach our defensive lines.

The British 8th Army's 10th and 30th Corps hard on our heels.

Further North near the Tunisian capital the build up on both sides continues, hopefully rain will help our defence, we must push the Allies back and take control of rough terrain, don't want to get my forces caught out in the open against overwhelming armoured numbers.

Situation report 24 Nov 1942

No real ground combat yet, plenty of Air activity though with The Allies bombing my ground forces and the Luftwaffe attacking the Allied supply convoys.

Switching to Naval Patrols for all Air Commands in the hope of firstly interdicting the enemy Naval operations and protecting my own resupply convoys.
