Improper CPP gain or am I simply dumb?

Post by ITAKLinus »

Hi everyone,

I am doing a nice PBEM game as Axis and I am not understanding AT ALL the CPP mechanic.

The manual says the following:
CPP are gained at the end of the friendly movement phase.
All units will gain one CPP for each 24 unused SMP. If units
end the turn neither adjacent to the enemy nor in a hex
that was not friendly controlled at the start of the turn then
they will gain triple the number of CPPs. Note that no unit
can ever have more than 100 CPP.
Units attached to a Soviet Front or Axis Army set to
Assault Status (21.11.2) will gain one CPP for each 12
unused SMP.

Now, a unit with 200SMP and following the above criteria should get 200/24*3=25CPP

What I do fail to understand is the Assault Status. As far as I can tell, my divisions will gain 25CPP no matter what.

Here are some divisions on T024 in the save 'prelogistics', meaning precisely at the end of the turn:

It seems to me that they should gain 50CPP since they are immobile, in hexes I do control far from enemy and under CorpsHQs reporting to the 4.PanzerGroup, which is proudly assault hq since the very beginning of the war.

The math: 200/12*3=50CPP

Instead, here the following turn :

As shown, +25CPP each even if they are respecting the rules (apparently).

Now, it's since T001 that the situation is as such and I do wonder what am I missing of these rules.

One thing that comes to my mind is that the units have to be directly attached to the army in order to gain fully the CPPs? In that case it would be quite extravagant but it would be explained why I keep getting max 25CPP per turn no matter what.

Moreover, I fail to grasp whether I am doing something utterly dumb due to having missed some line somewhere or if I simply misunderstood the rules. 25CPPs per-turn vs 50 is a hugely remarkable difference for offensive operations, especially when you are short of time and when covering your moves is important for the final outcome.

Hence, I do ask: what the hell am I doing wrong / misunderstanding about CPP gain for assault HQs?

Thanks in advance for addressing a poor, ignorant general's path!

What's the command points in your AHQ and corps? If the command points are over the command limit, the subordinate units will not get AHQ bonuses, including the double cpp gain. This means if the Army is over the command limit, all of the units in the army will gain a max of 25 CPP per turn.

Not only the corps and the army, but also the army group should not have an overload. Only then will your units receive their assault headquarters bonus.
Sorry, i use an online translator :(

Thanks for the replies.

It's indeed the damn army group south which is overloaded at 139:108. I wonder if I have always overloaded every army group to which I have attached my AssaultsHQs... Surely not the Army HQs and the Corps HQs since I do pay a lot of attention to make them stay within the limits.

Isn't it quite convoluted the fact that the higher HQ in the command chain has to be within the limits? I do imagine it makes sense for the army itself and the subordinate corps HQs, but the army group? It just doesn't sound right to me.

Thanks again for the replies.
