DE 604 & DE 702 Inconsistencies

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

DE 604 & DE 702 Inconsistencies

Post by Jkap »

It seems these events don't occur when they should. Did some hotseat testing and noticed the following. When saying yes to DE 638 (Case Anton) after the Allies take Algeria, this always allows DE 604 for the Strasbourg and DE 702 for the Jean De Vienne to be prompted to the player. The timing seems to be randomly in the next few turns, and they appear in no particular order after DE 638. If you however manually invade Vichy in the 1939 & 1940 campaigns after establishing it, you don't get the aforementioned events.

In the 1942 campaign I also noticed I never got the Italian DE and only the German one. Interestingly as well I accepted the German DE for the Strasbourg in June, and it didn't spawn until September but after Case Anton they seem to spawn instantly or by the next turn. In a current 1939 game, I invaded Vichy France since my opponent had no intention of entering Algeria and I didn't get any of the events to refloat the ships. Not sure if maybe this is just an extremely rare occurence, or maybe I'm missing something. Would like to hear experiences from other players if they noticed something similar.

DE 604 has a 50% chance of triggering per turn once its conditions are met, so there will be variability from game to game, but the conditions are virtually the same* in 1939 and 1942 so it will just be the randomness affecting its timing. That said, there is no reason for its not deploying straight after DE 604 has been accepted, so I do not understand how that could be the case.

* in 1939 it is triggered by the British DE 100 on their stance towards the formation of Vichy France, which obviously does not exist in 1942.

You are right, at least with the Jean de Vienne events, that it requires Vichy France to have been invaded via Case Anton. This presupposes a rapid collapse of Vichy France and the scuttling of this ship, as happened in 1942.

Thanks for the reply Bill and clearing this up. Though I have some more questions. Does DE 100 affect the event if you manually invade instead of via Case Anton or both? I see now that in 1942 in waw and wie you get DE 604. Though, I think it shouldn't be the case in the 39' and 40' campaigns that these events are taken away however, depending on the UK response to DE 100. It's usually more beneficial to take Vichy, but in 39' & 40' I don't get the event, while in 41' & 42' I do.

DE 604 requires Toulon to be in Axis hands to fire, whether that be via DE 638 or a manual invasion does not matter.

You said in 1939 it is affected by DE 100 and I was asking why. In a 1939 game the UK recognized the Free French and when I invaded Vichy myself I never recieved the event. So why is DE 100 a relevant factor? DE 604 should fire regardless.

Yes, I've been wondering the same and looking over things again, I'm not sure there is a logical reason for it to be tied to DE 100.

I'll make a note to change it in the 1939 and 1940 campaigns in a future update, it won't be in the next one though.

I've just worked it out, and what we're missing is a repeat of this DE for when the UK does support the Free French.

The reason there has to be a check is that we only want DE 604 being presented if Vichy France is formed, and I must have just missed adding it in to cater for all situations when Vichy France is formed.
