[RESOLVED] WOTY version freezes

Post by milkweg »

Game randomly freezes. There is a thread on steam about it and here is a reddit post about it. Developer is non responsive. I know this is an older version of the game but I still paid good money for it and expect a properly functioning product. :?

Hi,
looks like the link you posted to is a 4 year old thread? Also, I don't know what WOTY means so I'm likely missing something. Is CMANO not discontinued in favor of CMO? In any case, hope you find a solution.

Regards,

There was an update to CMNAO that was call wargame of the year edition. But no version number or anything about what scenario. And I agree with the above. Bringing a four year old thread with a few responses on it is not building a solid case for developer neglect. And its on, of all things, reddit. Did anyone from that four year old thread come over here and report it?

There are a couple of posts on Steam about it too and not just reddit. This is a real issue and developer won't fix it. Guess I got robbed.

Have you tried posting in the tech forum here? For being so concerned, you are giving up easily. Why not post the Steam threads? Why a four year old reddit thread?

btw, I just ran 1.15.7 CMNAO with no issues. Ran for 25 minutes just to make sure. Op Brass Drum was the scenario.

Steam CMNAO Op Brass Drum running for over 45 minutes and still going. So at least I didn't get robbed.

Command WOTY has been on the very low priority list for almost 4 years. It was delisted for purchased when Command: Modern Operations (effectively CMANO 2.0) released. There was a grace period during a couple months where you could buy CMO for a 50% discount as a WOTY owner.

I'm sorry, but at this point it's kind of on you that you didn't upgrade to CMO yet.

I wouldn't expect much Developer or community support honestly.

Just upgrade to CMO, it's better in pretty much every way.

Complaining about a piece of software not working when support (and lack of developer help) for it effectively ended almost 4 years ago is ether a very trollish or very arrogant thing to do. It's like complaining to Microsoft about a Windows 7 problem now. Sorry, that ship has sailed.

Actually, the best step would have just been to go to the tech support forum, state the issue, version, scenario that shows the issue, and someone would have helped. Coming in and claiming the devs are stealing from their customers in the main forum is a good way to get push back.

btw, I have yet to see this a market-wide issue. But we won't get to the bottom of it because the OP refuses to be anywhere near constructive.

Very old version. I'd suggest making sure your OS is updated and install all the .net prerequisites.

If you are using any overlay software turn it off and see if it makes a difference Nahemic and maybe one other was a problem at one point or the other.

If you can and really like the game jump to the new version. It is much improved in many ways. If your computer is a pile save your good money to replace that.

I have been using computers since 1989, don't need help with my PC config but thanks for the suggestion. I have over 400 games installed and everyone of them works fine with no issue except this game so obviously the game is the issue and not my PC.It has been reported numerous times and the developer is doing nothing to fix it. Therefore; I was robbed of my $80.00 CAD and am not interested in forking out more money for the newer version.

Sounds like you don't really want to play the game. Just trolling.

If I'm wrong, go ahead and let us know what version, error logs, etc. Though with 400 games, I suppose we shouldn't have to tell you that.

I just want to ask, When did you purchase Command WOTY?

It's been delisted from Steam and the Matrix Store for at least two years, so if you just bought it, How?

If you bought it before Nov. 2019, then my original comment stands. It's on you to upgrade. You were given plenty of chances to do it.

I don't necessarily agree with that. No matter when he bought it and if he's still playing on supported technology, he should be able to play it. But if he can't be arsed to even hint at how he's running it or the version, then he is his own problem. As I said above, I have no issues running it, so I must know more about PCs than him.

Re: [PEBKAC] WOTY version freezes

I have both the Matrixgames version and the Steam version. I am running the Steam version currently but the freezing issue is the same in both. It's not my PC that is at issue so don't think you know more about PC than me and if you do I don't care. This is a real issue and had been posted about by multiple people. There are threads on Steam forum about it so maybe you just are not doing what I do that causes it to happen. Last time it froze was when I loaded the database on a ship.

I could upgrade for 50% off right now but I don't like the game enough to fork out more money than I already have. I still play Harpoon2 more than this game and it never freezes too.

JUst to rehash from above...

You are using a four year old thread to make your point. You have provided almost no info on version, your specs, if you have run DX9 or dot.net, etc. It looks like you are expecting the devs to wave a magic wand and fix your issue. Its obviously not the game itself. I was able to run it no issues. Again, what version and what are the specs of your PC.

Maybe you'll go away for a few months and not bother responding again.

I have lots of games that use .Net and they all run fine. My PC is i5 3500k@4.2ghz, 16GB ram, GTX 1070 vid card. This is the only game on my PC that gets random freezes, its the game and not my PC. What is there to check with .Net? Uninstall it and install it again just to appease you? No!

edit: OK, just been running the game for 45 minutes with no freeze. The only thing I've done differently is not open any of the database info.

In CMANO, the simulation deliberately freezes (stops) when you open the DB-viewer and Air-Ops windows. Perhaps this is what you are experiencing ?

(In CMO this is configurable)

No, because when it freezes I can't even minimize the game or close it. I have to use task manager to force it to close. Thx for the input though.

And this is not PEBKAC, its a real issue and is not my PC. I've been PC gaming since 1993 and know a thing or two.

* Is the OS fully updated? Graphics drivers updated? Direct-X 9 installed?
* Is Command running as admin? (ie. prompting you "are you sure you want to run this program" when you launch it)
* (Steam only) Are Steam overlays disabled for Command?
* (Steam only) Is Direct-Write disabled on the Steam client?
* Are all other applications (and especially hardware-helper apps like RivaTuner, Nahimic, MSI Afterburner etc.) shut down?
* Are you using a high-DPI desktop? (ie. font size >100%)
* Are you using Norton antivirus? (This POS is very frequently silently blocking file updates)

Also, can we see the Exception Log file? ( \Logs\ExceptionLog.txt)
