Opinion please

Post by PanzerMike »

Hi guys. Just tinkering with the graphics a little bit lately, while waiting for the patch. This should maybe go to the modding forum, but it seems to very quiet. So with the risk of trespassing in this forum (sorry Alvaro), what do you think of the graphics in the picture?

Ow, and I stole some stuff from others (like the rail line and marsh graphics which I liked). Forgot the names, sorry guys. You know who you are. Thank you.

I especially struggle to make something nice for the hills and mountains.

Nice. What I like is adding more place names also directly on the map.

Yeah, but then you have to make your own scenario file. And then you have to keep that in synch with the patches. I wish the map was separate in some way, but it all goes into the scn file..

I try to keep the mod out of the scn file therefore.

Yeah I know. You have to restart after every patch.

I also agree it would be cool to separate map and scenario. Maybe for WP2? Only Alvaro could answer.

We use your unit and map graphics mod. Looks to me like your new map mod's colours are toned down compared to the mod we are using. I do like how the rail lines are displayed compared to the current map graphics where they aren't that much different than roads.

Correct. Much less saturated colors and more of a board game feel it what I am trying. But without the need to put stuff in the scenario file. That is a pain on the butt to keep current.

How about this?
And yes, the map itself is not vanilla anymore if you look closely.

I like very much your new marshes. Did you take the map of the Red Titan scenario?

Red Titan? Don't know it. This is an old mod I am redoing, Scorched Earth. I stopped working on that because the game was still so much in flux. Hopefully things have settled down more, hahaha.

My mod redoes the rail lines and roads, some changes to the weather and lots of flavor additions (like the minor cities, which are eye candy only). Ow, and some minor corrections, like the area around Emden, and some missing ports, like in Courland.

I am not changing the position of the important places or the river lines. The AI scripting is based on those positions. Changing them creates a lot of work. This mod will be instantly playable against the current AI.

And of course a new look for the map.

That's cool, I like a lot place names and I see some that were made for Red Titan too, that's why.

What exactly will Red Titan be? What is the aim of it?

And if anybody is interested in the graphics I am doing, I can put them up for grabs when I am finished.

Its purpose was to try to better simulate Red Army organisation during the course of the war. The fact that initial tank corps were replaced by tank brigades. So, I was willing to add +1 tank to all Soviet armies. The fact that Russian OOB contains more armies and to put them in Deployment queue. What I am missing is the tank army merge command to associate two tank corps and one mechanized corps. It's a shame you have to use WITE2 to have this level of detail whereas it could perfectly be done in WP too without entering in too much detail.
