WETT - an addition to tracker

Post by Marc »

New Version 0.9 - 10 April 2023

I added a few functions and optimized the code.
It is also much easier to setup.
Here is the download link:

Tracker is a very useful tool, especially if you are playing the japanese side. So a big thank you again to Floyd and Damian.
But there are still some things that I am missing so I thought about taking the tracker database and export data for importing it in a spreadsheet.

I call it WETT (Witp ae Excel Tracker Tool) for lack of a better idea to name it ;)

what it does:
This tool tries to add some functions that the "tracker" tool doesn't have.
It works for the Allies and Japan.
At the moment these are:
  • Alerts - fuel/supply spoilage, insufficient garrison/aviation support and others
  • LCUs - Plan your LCUs and filter them by region, base and so on
  • Airgroups - the same for airgroups
  • Ships - the same for ships
  • TFs - this was mainly built for planning the fuel need for an operation far from fuel sources.
  • ShipProduction (only Japan) - Plan the japanese ship production and see the development of the shipbuilding pools from day to day.
what you need:
  • WitP AE (obviously)
  • Microsoft Excel (I don't know which version works but too old a version won't)
You can try first to open the WETT.xlsm. If this works without errors you should be fine.
Since it uses makros you likely have to allow the WETT.xlsm workbook to do so.
If you don't have Excel you can still use the CSVs but they alone are not half the fun ;)
or you can search for "try excel" in google for a time limited version from Microsoft.
how does it work:
It uses tracker (not your tracker but another one) to build a tracker database and with a SQL script it generates relevant data from this database and saves that data to CSV files.
The WETT.xlsm Excel file then uses these CSV files.

how to install:
  • Extract the WETT folder from the ZIP file to your "War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition" game folder.
  • Open the WETT.xlsm file from the WETT folder with Excel.
  • Read the short manual in the "manual" sheet in the Excel file.
remarks:
Comments, error reports, help requests and feature requests are welcome.

The forum seems silent on your work. Has anyone given you any feedback on this? I'm loath to tamper with tracker as it is so important to a Japanese player. Hal

I've not tried it but as to your doubts on tracker just create a second copy and use that.

Hi Hal. The only feedback I got was from me. I convinced myself that this tool is very useful. ;)

As Chris said. Just copy your tracker directory and use just that. The original tracker won't get touched.
If you want to be extra safe then copy the tracker directory additional to another drive as backup.

Thank you for your feedback.
Because I built the tool for me in the first place I am not dependent on feedback but it surely would add some motivation.

Hi Marc-

I have only just returned after a long (since 2018) break from this awesome game. It didn't take long for me to get hooked again. I use Tracker extensively, WETT will be a wonderful addition.

I deeply respect your work, and the work of all the Very Smart Guys (tm) who add to the enjoyment of the game.

And:

I love AE's detail treatment of the the Pacific War; it originally took me 4 plus hours to do a turn (cause I check everything); eventually trimmed down to 2 hours. My awesome (and ever patient) Wife feels that I will finish one of my two Campaign Games (Andy Mac's outstanding enhancements) by the year 2525...:)

Don't worry- WETT will catch on.

I don't use tracker much. As a Allied Fanboy I use a paper notebook to keep track of things and make notes. I might just fire tracker up again and add WETT and see how it works....GP

All I get are errors when I try to run it

What I have figured out is your program WETTstart.cmd is flawed. It calls Java.exe, but in most systems that is not a 32-bit Java installation which is needed
for tracker to load a turn.

And then after than my old version of Excel does not support the functions you use, so I can not use it.

WETTstart.cmd should not be flawed. You may have to edit the call of java.exe to the same you use with tracker.
Look in your WitPTracker.bat file and edit WETTstart.cmd accordingly.
I had that info hidden a bit in the readme.txt file and added it now in my first post.

Yes. Rather old versions of Excel won't work. Sorry.

I updated my LibreOffice to version 7.4 and it loads the xlsm with no problem, but Malware Bytes Premium will not let the Macros run. So I can not use or evaluate this program, sorry.

The makros are mostly not necessary. Only for the ship building planner they are mandatory.
LibreOffice is at the moment not really compatible with the Excel file. The CSV files can't be imported and the totals are not displayed.

If someone wants to try:
You simply have to import the CSV files into a spreadsheet. Bring the data a bit in shape. Put a filter on the data and find a way to import the data again when the CSV files are updated.
Not that hard to do.
Perhaps I'll do it in the future if you convince me to do it. ;)

Only the ship building planner relies heavily on makros. So that is not an easy task and I won't do that.
