T268 10/15/44 Sea interdiction strike against Japanese surface force moving from Hainan to attack US fleet off of Formosa. Note the German Q Ship made to look like a Royal Navy light cruiser. It should have surrendered with the loss of Berlin but no!

T274 11/26/44 Invasion of Okinawa is underway! It may be premature but it might work. Nearly all the Marines are formed and will make the assault.

T276 12/10/44 In the end the Japanese expected the Allies to invade Okinawa from the north. It has deep water and the Allied Army units can participate. By using the southern shallow water area the Japanese Bot did not send in the remainder of its fleet on a suicide run. It would have made no difference however. Only a handful of Kamikazes managed to attack the fleet.

Here is victory at Okinawa by taking the surrender point in 3 turns and 9 consecutive assaults. Nearly every Marine was needed.

Interesting that the Bot had five of the six defenders on Minimize Losses. Expected that they would have held to the last man.

Congratulations on the victory and thank you for the comprehensive AAR. Good work.

This is a monumental achievement is scenario design and creation. The map is probably the biggest I have ever seen. Same goes for the OOB.

I started a game as the Allies against the Axis bot and the game crashed. First time I have seen that with TOAW IV. :o

The scenario does crash every once in a while. After a crash when I am doing a move, I save the file about half way through just in case. I do that a number of times and turns and then I forget about it. About the time I forget about it the scenario crashes again!

Thanks for the complements.

The game crashed during the first turn and I didn't get a chance to even do anything.

A chance comment regarding program behavior. Don't know if it affects crashes or not.

While housecleaning windows processes on my PC, I ran across one that preloaded software, apparently attempting to anticipate what I would use and thus have it available for faster starts.

I disabled the process out of curiosity. One program that behaves a bit differently is TOAW. It starts just a little bit more slowly, but I noticed when I invoke the editor, it is ready to function -sooner- than when the preloader process was working.

No idea if "helpers" like that from the OS can provoke crashes or whatever in TOAW, but given TOAW's age and the number for Windows upgrades in the years since TOAW was first released, one wonders.

Cheers

It is certainly something to consider. TBH in my mind it is a minor miracle that TOAW works as well as it does given the age of some of the underlying code. This was the first crash I had experienced with the game.

TOAW ACOW even works well with WIndows 10. I suppose it is a testament to the great job Norm Koger originally did.

Nice AAR, I was quite surprised to see the Soviets entering Berling first, and even more surprised by how easily the Allies traversed Italy and the Alps to take Southern Germany.
