IJN Metal of Honor for entire crew of IJN 8th coastal grp

Post by ago1000 »

Headlines Read: Metal of Honor for crew of 8th costal grp.

While on patrol off the coast of a small island of Guadalcanal, the now legendary IJN 8th Coastal Grp bravely captured 4 US carriers and one Battleship. Boarding elite troops onto the carriers and battleship at night, they managed to surprise their crews and take control of each of the carriers and use them to attack and sink the UK's Indomitable and USA 3rd DD Squadron in the area. However, as the taskforce returned back to Tokyo, the four carriers, Battleship and its escorting destroy vanished without a trace. It is believed that all hands were lost in the storm they were using for cover on the return trip when it quickly turned into a typhoon. The brave crew of the 8th coastal grp has been recalled back to Tokyo where they will be honored for their bravery and each will be presented the Metal of Honor by the Emperor.

Can you detail how this happened? I assume an A.I. game?

The coastal group was stationed off of Guadalcanal port for a turn or two. Then the AI made it's move, when I clicked on the low supply icon (top right), to my surprise, the costal group was on top of a whole list of US carriers From the pic it looks like the top group controls ownership. I could then use the US carriers to attack the two nearby ships present and sink them without moving them. When I tried moving them up to Tokyo from port to port, after 2 turns, they disappeared.

Playing the 41 small fleet scenario.

So you hit the supply toggle on the top bar then and it moved the ships on top of the US fleet.

I just want to be sure this is right. I don't remember this being reported before.

No-my coastal unit did not move. It remained at the port opening at Guadalcanal.

From the pic you can't see the captured US fleet as the fleet counter is IJN now until you click on it. I have a habit of clicking on those buttons on the top right to see what units were in trouble first then go on to make my move. I stand corrected, I clicked on the actual hex thinking it was my coastal unit but to my surprise it was my coastal unit and 5 US battlegroups too. Clicking on the buttons on the top right had no impact. The US fleet was already there.

Since the computer thought it was IJN TF now (IJN coastal group on the top), I was able to use the US carriers to sink the British fleet(1CV) and US fleet(1DD).

sent you the file. I hope.

There is. I have a lot of code to prevent the A.I. from moving on top of the player's fleet.

I have to trace this down to see why it is still happening.

I might have found the final bug on this issue. It was happening in a specific move function with a specific set of things happening in order.

That's great news. Thanks. I think the coastal groups will be disappointed though.
