Allied Impulse #3

Weather is fine everywhere with a 2.

CW Combined, France Naval, China Land, USA/USSR Combineds. Not much of anything happens except CW tries to shore up its defenses in N. Africa and China retreats a bit to mountains.

Axis Impulse #4

Germany and Japan Land. Italian Naval.

Italians move a loaded TRS (Roma MIL) to East Med. A couple of Italian SUBs head to Cape St. Vincent, but fail to find the CW convoys. During Land moves, Japan moves towards the Southern Mountains in China. Germany moves lands units and air East and into Denmark, notably. Japan does an automatic 21 attack on Henyang and takes out the 3-1 GAR stuck there. The USA does not seem to mind when Japan takes the Chinese city. Germany destroys the Polish Partisan annoyance in the course of heading East.

Allied Impulse #5

Weather is Rain in Arctic and N. Monsoon, fine everywhere else.

CW takes a Combined. China a land. and all others, combineds.

After moving a stack into the 4 box in East Med, the CW activates a SUB in the Italian Coast... combat round 1 sees the NEI SUB damaged and one Italian Escort aborted. There is no second round as CW SUBs decline (not wanting to risk the damaged SUB). Italy initiates in the East Med, hoping to nullify the presence of the enemy bonus the CW is searching for. No one finds.

China pulls back further to hide in Mountains in the south. The communists shuffle around.

Axis Impulse #6

Germany takes a Naval. Italy takes a combined. Japan takes a Land.

German navy moves into the North Sea with the 6-mover ships. They move Vichy assets in the Indian Ocean... 1 SUB and 3 Vichy convoy points move to the Red Sea. Italy guards its Italian Coast sea area a bit more by replacing the cruiser aborted last impulse to have 3 ships in the 4-box. Only successful activation is in the North Sea by Germany, but the are surprise by 7 points. CW suffer 1 damaged and 1 aborted crappy cruiser. Germany has 2 damaged BBs and 2 damaged cruisers. They abort the sea area in humiliation.

Japan repositions its Southern Army. Italy lands the Roman MIL in Egypt.

Allied Impulse #7

Weather is fine everywhere.

Everybody passes w/30% chance... a 6 is rolled and things continue.

Axis Impulse #8

Italy combined. Germany and Japan Land.

Italy searches in the East Med. Allies surprise them... they choose 2 boxes with lone TRS and choose a surface naval battle with 4 of their 7 surprise points. 1 Italian TRS is aborted and 1 destroyed (using surprise to do so). 2nd round, CW again achieve surprise and choose to Avoid Combat... so the fighting here ends.

Japan conducts ground strikes with ART and A/C 2 factor in the southern mountains and with a 3 factor A/C against the nationist CAV in the north. None of the ground strikes succeed.

Japan makes 1 land attack in the south at +8 odds or so. China calls an assault (in the mountains). It takes the hex, but loses 2 unit... a Kyoto MIL and MAR Div.

Allied Impulse #9

Rain in Arctic and N. Monsoon. Fair everywhere else.

Everyone passes once more. 50% chance to end turn. A 10 is rolled.

Axis Impulse #10

Germany takes a Land while Japan/Italy take combineds. Italy sends a cp back to La Spezia (the Yugoslavian CP has taken its spot). Japan sends a loaded TRS directly to Canton with an INF.

Italy searches the East Med and achieves 5 surprise points, using 2 to mitigate AAA and 2 more to cause more damage to the CW cruisers... 1 is damaged w/ 1/2 abort while the others are unaffect. There is no successful search in the second round. No other search attempts are undertaken.

General movement East is happening with German air and land units. Otherwise, nothing much happens in the land phase.

Axis Ends the Turn with their roll.

What's happening in Europe and North Africa:

In Western Europe there appears to be a bit of a build up of force in Denmark for some strange reason. There is a movement of units towards the East as well.

In North Africa, The Axis have been halted for now, but the CW has a sparsity of units. However, there are some in India and South Africa that can make it to in a few impulses. There is also a MECH in Malta with a TRS and a MOT in England with a TRS which may make it south at some point.

Axis win initiative.

Arctic/N. Temperate Rain, Fine everywhere else.

Germany takes a combined, Italy takes a Naval, Japan takes a land.

Italy searches in E Med amongst others, but is surprise mildly by the CW so that AA manages to handle all of the attacking Nav air in the first round. There is no 2nd round.

Japan tries some ground strikes and disorganizes a unit West of Hengyang. 2 others A/C strikes are not successful. Germany debarks a ARM Div into Alexandria.

Japan makes one land attack on the hex West of Hengyang using HQ support. China calls a Blitz for the +9 attack. China loses 1 unit and Japan loses 1 unit while being totally disorganized. A good result for China and basically ending the southern offensive by Japan for this season.

Allied Impulse #3

CW/USA/USSR take combineds, China a Land and France a Naval.

CW moves a CV fleet into the E Med from Malta with a loaded TRS (MECH) to the 3-box. A TRS loads with a South African INF in Capetown and stops in the Red Sea. Italy initiates naval combat in the E Med. A German NAV moves to the 2-box to enter the fray. Nobody finds despite the fine weather.

CW do a CV plane and ART Ground Strike on the units in Alexandria. There is no interception by the Axis. Nor does the AA to the West of Alexandria react. As for the stack, an Italian INF is disorganized while the Italian MECH and ARM Div are not affected.

During Land Movement, China pulls back a bit in the Mountains in S. China. Russia works on its defensive lines in East Europe. CW disembarks the MECH into Port Said and the INF into the minor port adjacent to Cairo.

Axis Impulse #5

A 1 is rolled for weather and Fine everywhere.

Germany, Italy and Japan all take lands.

Japan fails another 30% chance Ground Strike on the OOS nationalist CAV in the northern mountains. German, on the other hand, strikes one of the defenders East of Alexandria for 2 disorganised units in that hex.

Germany geta a +6 attack on the hex East of Alexandria and chooses Blitz. The attack retreats all the defenders and disorganizes 1/2 the attackers. This is likely the end of attacks in Egypt for this impulse as Graziani is disorganised after using HQ support.

Nov/Dec 1940 con't

Allied Impulse #6

France takes a Naval. China a Land. Everyone else takes a combined.

CW does a port attack against Athens Italian fleet. 5 surprise points achieved on the 3 ships in port. Damage to a BB (Comte di Cavour) and a CA Garibaldi.

CW shores up defenses in Egypt. USSR and China move units into stronger defensive positions in China.

Axis Impulse #7

Weather is Rain in the Arctic and N. Temperate and fine everywhere else.

Germany, Italy take a Land and Japan takes a combined.

Japan moves a TRS into China Sea and picks up a MOT from the homeland.

Land moves involve some movement to gain attack positions. Japan chooses not to attack this impulse while, after consideration, the German/Italian Egyptian force decides to attempt a Blitz on the 5-4/2-4 territorial stack along the East Med coast... some shore bombardment brings the odds up to +5.14. A 20 is rolled and the units eliminated. No breakthrough is possible, but a good result nevertheless (I forgot to take a screen shot of the combat).

Allied Impulse #9

Everyone passes but the CW which takes a Naval for 40% chance of EoT.

CW moves to cover convoys and moves a TRS loaded with a MOT from Plymouth to the West Med with some BBs and a CL to cover. The Gort HQ on the Queens moves directly to Cairo.

In naval activation, CW finds with SUBs and 10 surprise in Italian Coast. Surprise is used to choose a SUB combat (nullifying a German NAV) and reduce damage to 2 possible aborts. Both SUBs abort while the Yugoslavian CP is destroyed. The lone Italian CP in the W. Med remains unfound as do Italian assets in the East Med (hiding from the CV force of the CW). The Italian SUBs in St. Vincent likewise fail to find.

A CW strat bombing mission does not do any damage.

A roll of 1 ends the turn.

End of Turn (Nov/Dec 1940)

No Partisans. The US adds a chit to Japanese entry. They choose to freeze Japanese assets and move a chit into the tension pool for Japan. No other choices are made.

Production:

Germany - 3 INF, 1 MECH, 1 MECH div, 1 FTR, 1 Pilot, (21 BP)
Italy - 1 TRS, 1 FTR, 1 Pilot (6 BP)
Japan - 1 CV (2nd), 2 AMPH (2nd), 1 BB (2nd) (15 BP)
Vichy - 1 cp (1 BP)
China - 2 GARR (4 BP)
CW - 1 INF, 2 Pilots, 2 CV air, 3 CL (2nd), 1 NAV, 1 CP, (15 BP)
France - Save 4 BP (4 BP)
USA - 2 CV (2nd), 2 TRS, 1 cp, 3 CV Air. save 8 BP(21 BP)
USSR - 3 INF, 2 FTR, 1 Pilot, save 2 BP (17 BP)

End of Turn Charts... I forgot to do destroyed (or none were destroyed... it was empty when I thought to check)

Axis win initiative. They will go 1st.

Axis Impulse #1

Weather is Snow in Arctic/N. Temperate, Storm in Med, Fine in N. Monsoon, other places do not matter.

Germany takes a Combined. Italy takes a Naval. Japan takes a Land.

Italy moves a TRS to try to land a MOT from Athens in Alexandria, but is intercepted and decides not to fight through. The rest of the navy in Athens decides to join it in the East Med with 6 strong ships in the 2 box with the TRS and a couple of more in the 4 box. Some units go into the West Med to work on the units the CW left there to maintain sea control. SUBS, both German and Italian, totaling 4... head to Cape St. Vincent to hunt for CPs in the Stormy Med weather. All searches fail.

Japanese conduct 2 Ground Strikes against Kweilin in the South but all fail against the 2 units there.

Japan decides to move units forward into position to make an attack. Germany continues its build up along the Russian frontier. Japan reconsiders attack Kweilin in hopes of having more success in ground strikes next impulse and having even more unit strength there. China really cannot do much to reinforce the city anyhow.

Allied Impulse #4

CW and France take a Naval, China a Land, and USA/USSR Combineds.

CW and France move to cover convoys and set convoy lines.

Italian Coast sees successful searches by CW SUBS and Italian escorts in the 3 and 4 boxes respectively... the 2 SUBS abort while 2 of the 3 escorts also abort, ending the combat in that sea area. CW initiates no other searches. Italy responds with an attempt with SUBs in St. Vincent's but fails... both succeed in finding each other in the East Med. In the 1st round of surface, CW have 1 BB and 2 light ships damaged. Both elect to fight a 2nd round... Italy has 4 points of surprise but is outgunned however things work out in this fight and elects to avoid combat with its points. Italy also fails to find in the West Med. The Naval portion ends.

CW strat bombing, unopposed, destroys 2 German BP.

China pulls back some units to save what it can while still trying to keep a strong presence in Kweilin. The city looks rather indefensible given the unit numbers though... It shall be seen. USSR does some moving on its Western reaches.

Axis Impulse #7

Weather is Blizzard in Arctic, Snow in N. Temp and Med, Fine in N. Monsoon... rest do not matter.

Germany and Italy take combineds while Japan takes a land.

Italian/German SUBs search St. Vincents but are surprised by escorts... surprise points nullify any effects on the allied ships and increase damage results on the 1 Italian SUB in the combat. That SUB is destroyed. 2nd round, both find... the combat will be a surface with the Axis subs being much greater strength than the pitiful escorts. 1 Allied cruiser is aborted and 1 damaged. 1 German SUB is aborted. There is no further combat in the sea area with missed search rolls in the 3rd round.

Axis Impulse #7 con't

In its part of the Naval session, CW searches the East Med. Allies find with minimal surprise points (1). They choose a naval air to see if they can catch an Italian NAV. The Italian NAV is aborted from the sea area while 1 CW CV plane is aborted back to its carrier. The CW CV plane that is meant to bomb the Italian ship is ineffective. 2nd round is the same with CW achieving minimal surprise. CW does not force a NAV air battle but opts to default to surface. 1 CW cruiser and 1 Italian cruiser are aborted. 3rd round, more Italians are in with a bit of surprise, choosing a Naval Air combat. 1 CW cruiser is aborted. 4th round, CW achieve surprise. They choose Naval Air, boosting the A-A value to try to take out another NAV. The German NAV is aborted from the sea area. 5th round, CW again achieves surprise with 8 points. A Naval Air combat is selected. All surprise is spent on Offensive A-A. The CW air aborts the combat, but not before taking out the Italian NAV and its pilot, both. The next round sees both sides miss their search rolls.

Japanese STRAT bombing has no effect.

Japanese Ground Strikes with ART and A/C see 2 of 3 units disorganized in Kweilin.

During movement, Japanese further surround the city of Kweilin. Italy lands a MOT in Alexandria and moves the MOT in Libya proper along the coast closer to Tobruk. Japan declares 1 attack on Kweilin. It adds in HQ support from Yamamoto. China chooses a Blitz in hopes of having survivors. The city is taken and only 1 unit survives to be shattered. USA is unhappy with the pillaging and 1 chit is added to Japanese entry.

Japanese STRAT bombing has no effect.

Japanese Ground Strikes with ART and A/C see 2 of 3 units disorganized in Kwielin.

Japanese further surround the city of Kwielin. Italy lands a MOT in Alexandria and moves the MOT in Lybia proper along the coast closer to Tobruk.

Allied Impulse #10

CW takes a land as does China. All others take Combineds.

CW ground strikes Graziani hex with an ART in Egypt. The strike is successful in disorganizing the HQ-ARM but not the AAA above it. USSR decides there is no danger from Japan and rails Zuhkov westward. CW moves about in Egypt and sets up to attack the bothersome partisan in Italy (attack will be +14 with 1 Indian INF and 1 South African TERR). Gort-HQ is landed on the Burmese shores in hopes of retaking the capital in future. A Canadian MIL lands in Gibraltar.
The attack on the Partisan in India is less than stellar with a 6 assault modified to 20, losing the Indian MIL.

40% chance to end the turn is not made.

Axis Impulse #13

Weather is Snow in N. Temp and Med. Fine in the N. Monsoon. Others do not matter.

Germany takes a combined. Italy and Japan go for Land Actions.

Germany SUB search in St. Vincent's fails. For its part, CW fails its searches in the East Med.

Italy shuffles land units around the Egyptian front. Japan moves forward into attack position. Japan elects to attack a Mountain hex NE of Nanning, using an ENG to nullify the river. Japan loses a MAR/ENG/MOT Div while China loses a 5-3 INF.

Surprisingly, the turn does not end with a roll of 9 (8 needed)

Allied Impulse #16

CW takes a Combined as do USSR/France/USA. China takes a land.

CW moves a TRS from from Egypt to the Bay of Bengal.

CW activate in West Med, finding the Italian CP there and breaking the convoy for the Algerian resource in the 1st round. Italy aborts the sea area with its 3 ship fleet. Next, CW activates in East Med and achieves bountiful surprise (9 points). Naval Air is chosen and all the CW surprise goes into A-to-A value increase. Axis start with a roll of 19 destroying the Allied best CV plane and pilot. Allied get a null result. Both stay for the next round of air combat. Axis abort a CV plane... but allies get an AX and take out the NAV. Italy aborts the air combat. Both fleets elect to stay in the sea area... CW again gains surprise. Having an even surface fleet, but of lesser quality and no nav a/c factors, just CV fighters, they elect to Avoid Combat with their surprise points.

Land moves are made in Egypt and Burma by the CW, in China to try to preserve the situation, in Russia to get the troops set for the deluge.

The turn ends on a 1.
