Riddle me this

Post by PanzerMike »

Please see the picture. I have taken the Middle East oil (yay!). But only a trickle is actually transported to Italy via the Med convoy route. I have enough merchant marine, there is no partisan activitity. Everything is just dandy, but WHY is there such a low number of resources actually transported to Italy???

Could it be that only 10 are Italians and the others are German and going through the Persian Gulf with German merchants?

Only Tripoli (Syria) is in use. It seems only the the two oil 5 hexes taken by the Italians are actually transported to Italy. The oil hexes by the Germans seem to go nowhere and are wasted.

So much for an Alliance...

Is the Persian route closed in the German convoy window? That is my last idea....

No route is closed. The Italians simply refuse to transport the oil the Germans took. How rude ..

I had this same issue not long after the game was released.

You better think really good before you take those oil fields. If you let the Italians take all, there probably is no problem. Or the Germans. But mixing it seems to yield this strange result :|

Maybe Alvaro can shed some light on how this works

Alvaro, can you explain what is going on here? I understand you are busy with family matters, so no rush.

See if oil fields are damaged.

If this is an A.I. game you can email me the game and I will look.

I think I understand what is going on now :)

The Italians have conquered 10 oil points in Iraq. These are transported by sea to Italy (via the Med convoy route).

The Germans have conquered 5 oil points in Iraq. These are transported to Germany via Turkey. I had missed that in the "Convoys" screen. I also did not think of that because I figured there is no rail line in 187,34 (left of Istanbul), but apparently that is not a problem (i had totally forgotten about the invisible convoy hex next to Istanbul). It would help when you press the "Trade convoys" button to reveal all the routes, that the mouse over shows what is actually being transported over the land routes. It only shows a value over the sea routes currently.

Now concerning the German controlled Persian oil hex. It is partially damaged. The Persian oil is being shipped with German merchants via the Arabian sea to Basra, Iraq. From there I think it is being transported to Germany, also via the Turkey route. Except in the "Convoys" screen there is something strange. It says the oil is imported from the Soviet Union!

That makes no sense, because Germany is at war with them. The Persian oil actually arrives in Germany, I counted it and it definately is added to the German oil income. So that is correct. Except the "Convoys" screen wrongly shows that it is coming from the Soviet Union.

So a minor bug.

Hum... I was under the impression that neutral countries can not let ressources through them (such as Turkey). And then Italian, if so, ressources should also go through them. Very confusing...

Yes, it is very confusing. Neutral Turkey is a gateway for German oil, but not for the Italian oil. Maybe Alvaro can explain the logic behind this

Is this working as intended?

Realistically it is far easier to transport goods via ship than rail. Ships are by far the most efficient and capable way of moving anything in the world.

So I had to make a game choice of prioritizing convoys or rail.

Turkey was a tricky situation as there was no rail from mainland Europe connecting to Turkey at Istanbul. But there were ships that could ferry resources across that very short distance protected from any attack. They could go at night, there were minefields, etc, etc. So to replicate that in game is difficult.

In this case the Germans can ship through there because they have no convoys in the med. The Italians can't.

WP2 should have a better MM system. I will probably shift it to player control some but not too much where they can decide where the convoys leave and move to. Naval is really hard to do in games.

Alright, thank you for the explanation. But there is seemingly still a bug, because the game says the oil is coming from the Soviet Union
