This was weird

Post by neuromancer »

Last night I was playing, and I ran a transport group into a port and started unloading troops. Well the Japs proceeded to bomb the crap out of the group (showing up with a huge Zero escort group of 40 to 70 planes for an often small bomber group of 9 to 20 planes). Anyway, my transports group weathered the storm of bombs, losing one transport, two more damaged and one destroyer as well, and then I proceeded to run them home.

Well then I find one of my destroyers is out of fuel. Everyone else still has plenty of gas, but this one destroyer is at 0, and it was otherwise undamaged. I thought it odd, but otherwise carried on.

There was no fuel in that port, so I break it off and send it limping home on its own (you wouldn't think it could move at all). Meanwhile the damaged destroyer (which the computer split off on its own) stumbles into the staging hex for the Tokyo Express, and gets blown to crap (considering it was already damaged, it took a lot of hits to put it down).

A few turns later the one destroyer, without gas, stumbles into the Tokypo Express again (they had gone away, so I was annoyed that they came back). I figured this poor destroyer was toast, so clicked out. Much to my surprise it lived with only 3 shell hits. And suddenly it has a couple thousand miles worth of fuel again, and speeds away from the scene of the battle!

[&:]

Now either the fuel lines were clogged and the shell hits cleared them out. Or the Code of the Bushido of the Japanese fleet indicated that it was inappropriate to fight a warship without fuel, so they stopped, gave him fuel, and then started shooting at him now that he could manuever!
