Planetary Defense Units should be Garrisoned as Defense

PDUs need to be garrisoned as part of the colony defense system.

If the planetary defence units are garrisoned, then they will not be removed from the planet by troop transports.

I should have been more detailed. I am finding that building the facilities does not equate to having their host colony retain the PDUs by having them be Garrisoned there.

The AI seems to consider PDUs invading units and are loaded despite the Troop Template for Invasion roles having 0% PDUs.

So, my observation is that the AI is either bugged or does not consider PDUs as a defensive unit.

Solo Troop Transports tend to drop PDU units down only to have them be picked up again by the same or different ship or fleet.

It may be a reflection of my lack of understanding on how to define ways to ensure an adequate amount of PDU's to my border, and major colonies. I am finding that the % system is not working well for these purposes, if adhered to at all.

Did you set your invasion fleets to have the Invasion army template? By default, they are blank.

Yes, oddly the results are different between 'troop loading' instances. Under automation it did not pick up armored units. Under manual operation it did.

But, there may have been other things going on with respect to solo transports.

I just find it odd that PDU's are included into invasion fleets. They do have the benefit of supporting an immediate rebellion. But they would be better suited to be dropped last during an invasion as a follow up to the invasion forces.

I am not sure if the AI garrisoning system has been changed recently but the AI was controlling garrisoned units Including PDUs, Armor, Special forces, etc...
This was a departure from what I was used to, and it is related to the concept of "manual override by the player should be honored by the AI", unless it is certifiably dangerous to the player !

PDU's are the cheapest units, I load my invasion fleets with them as well to have less expensive invasion.
What's wrong with manually garisoning defense army? the AI troop management is not perfect anyway, it spams too much armies.

PDU's are 1500 size compared to Infantry which are 500 in size. Infantry cost 2K, PDUs are 3500; Infantry cost 200 to maintain, PDUs maintenance is 350. PDUs have the weakest attack strength, Not sure how they are cheaper to invade with? Which brings me to my point is they are a defensive unit. Invading with them is only viable if they are not part of the actual invasion.

One wants the AI to recruit, which forces Garrison automation. Perhaps they need to be separate settings.

Ah, misunderstanding, I replaced PDU's with infantry.
Yes I agree, defense units should all be garisoned automatically.

Sure; infantry 'are' a generic base defense unit. They can also invade to defend a population. (... the blue helmet theory of Tommy Douglas ???).
